Hi,

Due to the real kindness of Pierre69, a member of this site (Hi Pierre!), he passed to me 4 vintage watches including these 3 white-dial one :

A mysterious "CUP" Ebauche Suisse, a Lip, and an Omega. I was a bit surprized of the Omega without any other marks beside "Omega". No "Swiss", "Swiss Made", or series name like "Deville", "Seamaster", and I even said : "It could be an imitation"...

A look to the caliber, leaves no doubts, it's a genuine Omega 14748-1SC with a 550 series movement (automatic 552 exactly) of the 18 millions serie number (specialists would precisely locate the exact date of fabrication). The caliber is really impressive for its machining, the micrometric adjustment of the regulator :

It runs like a new. I wore it during a recent trip to UK for a week. Amazing, the watch keeps the time about -5s/day...

The Lip is a R136 A "Swiss Made". The movement looks like the ETA 1080 of the CUP but in details it is not really related. The LIP finish is very nice.

Both clearly need a complete mechanical service. I uncased the 3 watches to clean their cases, still without ultra-sonication :

Then the Lip 136 and the ETA 1080 were fully serviced

And finally recased. During the hand manipulation of the CUP, a plate of lume of the hour hand unfortunately detached spontaneously.

They now joined the Club of restored vintages while waiting to be regulated. It seems they have already a good time-keeping basis for this.

:-! very nice and clear watches Marc, also particular the balance bridge "customized" by LIP.

The dial of Omega seems to be re-dialed but an interesting trio.

Cheers, Aldo.;-)

Hi -

Marc, you are the man! Right now I am too tied in up in quarterly deadlines and waiting for materials to get any more work done on my Stowa, but I've got an ultrasonic cleaner on the way (€9 from eBay! Wooo!) and that's my next step.

Kudos on great work here, outstanding!

Best to you (and thanks for updating your blog!:-))

Nice job and very nice trio of watches. Do you ever get a stiff neck when working on watches. I recently serviced a Timex electric movement and my neck was killing me for to days.
Best, JR

Humm, wachtmaking has some risks ... The working position is for sure crucial. The best would be to work on a watchmaker bench that always over elevated compared to a normal desktop. That's not my case and I am worrying about my back but no stiff neck for now...

Take care anyway.

I have also an old "Electric" Timex in my stock. Do you service it as a normal watch?

Pretty much as any mechanical movement. These were really hybrid watches the battery replaces the barrel but the train and balance needs servicing.

Hi all

Great job as usual Marc and that's why I passed them to you, they are starting a new life, my grandpa would be glad !

In the meantime, I'm still waiting for my 1969 Breitling Chrono-matic to come back from The Dury's boutique in Lyon. It takes too long and that's killing meeeeee ! O|

I'll be back with before and after pics.

Cheers
