Hi all,

The Tissot forum suggested I give this forum a try - here goes:

I own a Tissot Seastar Seven Visodate Automatic, circa 1969, SS, with a silver-face dial. It is in excellent condition, however as I needed to replace the scratched crystal, I, decided to take it to a watchmaker for a complete servicing ($250.00).

Apparently, the old crystal was the wrong size, and after the new crystal was installed, it exposed the fact that the dial had horrendous scrapes along the outer edge where the crystal clamps down, being the wrong size it had crushed some of the hour markers. This damage was hidden by the older crystal. Now, the dial looks bad. So I am trying desperately to locate a replacement dial for my cherished watch. I contacted Tissot, but was given the expected answer that they no longer stock parts for watches this old. Refinishing the dial is going to be expensive (I assume).

Does anyone know of a parts source for a watch this old? I hunted all over but cant locate this dial. Many thanks for reading and any help offered.

many thanks

Hi -

This is where **really good** watchmakers earn their money. They have their own internal and informal networks for parts and supplies that normal folks never get access to (not unusual: any specialist dealer worth their salt will have the same connections, it's part of their business). Often their workplaces are true treasure houses for such parts.

My recommendation is finding a watchmaker that specializes in Tissot, either as a shop-owner or as a specialty. Finding the right watchmaker is almost an art in itself, and you might want to check here (http://www.nawcc.org/) to see if they can aid you in your search.

Good luck, and good hunting!

There was one on ebay a few weeks ago, used but good. Somebody in Europe, perhaps "vogel" in the name.

If it's not a real rare version it might be the easiest to search for a donor watch in the bay. Usually it's easy to find a seven with a nice dial, as the case construction avoided some damage caused by owners trying to mess around with it. ;-)

Cheers,
