Hello all,

Just a quick report on my thoughts of the Stowa Old Style Airmans Strap I've been using on my Stowa Marine these last few weeks (my apologies for lack of pics as I am currently camera-less, pic below is from the Stowa site).

I tend to go through leather straps very quickly, I like wearing a watch 24/7 and find metal bracelets and rubbers straps too uncomfortable, especially during sporting activities, which unfortunately tends to greatly shorten the life span of my straps.

After obtaining my Stowa Marine I noticed some articles on the old style airman straps with the double layer of leather (one going over the buckle) and I made some queries on this forum and others. Mr Schauer very kindly offered me a Stowa strap free of charge to test out and I of cause willing accepted!

First impressions:

Very supple leather, nice big stitching and chunky buckle. This strap is styled to look like the old airman straps, with the 2 leather and 1 metal keeper, but there is no second piece of leather to go over the buckle (Stowa also do this version but it is extra long and designed for its original purpose of being worn over clothing). The strap fit perfect with the Stowa Marine for my 7inch wrist and gives the Marine a very business tool watch look. Comfortable from the start. My only negative thoughts was that the leather was too thin (<2mm) and not last everyday wear.

After wearing the strap for nearly 3 weeks, only taking it off to bath, I can say I am very pleased with it. My inital fear that the strap was too thin proved wrong. Since a lot of the strap is doubled at the 3 keepers it actually becomes quite thick, but not too thick to look out of place or be a hinderence when worn with long sleeves and suit. The leather seems to be very robust and shows no sign of wear or stretching, and the underside of the leather not affected yet by perspiration. The only parts that have shown any wear is the underside of the rivets and the metal clip on the leather keeper which has begun to tarnish. I must add that this has been a problem I have had with all my riveted straps of other brands as well, not just this one. Nothing that a spot of enamel paint doesn't cure

So if anyone is interested in the Old Style Airmans strap, or just to give their watch a different tool like appearence but still be able to wear the watch/strap combination in just about most situations, then I can strongly recommend giving the Stowa strap a try.

The only problem I have got now is that I am looking at new watches that will look good with this strap!

regards,
Gordon
