I know that some of us watchlovers do like motorcycles as well. So letīs see your iron. Hereīs mine: 1997 Royal Enfield 535cc. Hopped up and lotīs of modifications (ongoing process). Exhaust is already swapped for an SS Goldstar with Rocker pipe. B-) On the second pic is my 350cc (sold now) and a friends 500cc in front of the famous Ace Café in London.

That Royal Enfield is a beauty :-!

Girlfriend and I just came back from a relaxed two hour ride. The temperature
today is 5°C/41°F and I am in the middle of getting warm again. A hot cup of
coffee with a shot of Jack Daniels is now in order... :-)

After 15 years without a bike (family, in particular young kids left no room/$ for a motorcycle), I got myself a small commuter bike again last summer.

And I am already making plans to upgrade to a larger bike as soon as the finances allow! :-)

Cheers

My 5th motorcycle, but my first Harley. 1st four motorcycles were Japanese sportsbikes, but I decided that I needed to slow down a bit and actually enjoy the ride versus becoming more and more frustrated with having no room to stretch those sportsbikes' legs. I guess I just needed a better tool for the job.

Hi,
In 2000 I bought a new Kawasaki ZR7 but only kept it for a year. I sold it and miss it a great deal.

I would love to get riding again soon. Depending on my financial situation in the next year I would like to get a bike before the Summer is over. I'm currently looking at BMW's but I'm not sure how crazy to go. Of course it all depends on finances...

Any advice you have on which BMW model, with money not being an issue, I should buy to use as a daily commuter and touring bike. I envision having hard cases attached all the time when commuting and touring....

Any advice on buying a used BMW from a dealership to get more for my money?

What's the difference between a 2 cylinder and a 4 cylinder? I figure the 4 cyclinder would have less vibration so then I could ride it longer without losing sensation in the hands....

I guess I'm looking for a touring bike but not one with handlebars that are so upright that my grandfather could ride it. I'm athletic and don't see any problems with leaning slightly forward for a few hours... thoughts? My zr7 was a comfortable bike to ride. The longest ride I had on it was 4 hours riding from Alexandria, VA into West Virginia... So in one day I did an 8 hour ride and loved every minute of it.

This is a great forum by the way!

If anyone is interested I wear a Doxa 300T Sharkhunter Reissue with leather strap.... I also own a 300T Pro and Seahunter Reissue but they are safely stored away and don't see the light of day... sad I know.

Thanks for any tips you can throw my way regarding a touring bike.

Never rode one or really even thought about buying one. Then I was on an overnight ride with about 50 friends, and after a day of riding I was sitting in the parking lot having a beer next to a buddy of mine's 748. Started looking at the thing, and all I could think was "gotta get me one of those"...... The only bike I ever bought without thinking much about how it performed, although after having covered a lot of miles on it, it is the first bike I've ever owned, which I'm pretty sure I'll never sell. What a great bike to ride!

I have been trying without success to put enough cash together to buy a Triumph, but I keep buying watches instead ;-)

An aquaintance of mine who is a biker died this morning. He was riding alone, on an MV Agusta on the way to meet up with the others in the group. He never made it. He is in his forties.

Being a Sunday morning with very low volume of traffic through a long sweeping bend he seem to have rode right into the armco barrier. Died on the spot. Another friend inspected the site later and find no tyre mark. Very strange. He was a pretty experience rider. :-(

God bless his soul.

Iīm very sorry to hear this! Unfortunately we motorcyclists are used to tragic news like this. It seems that no one of us can ride a bike unharmed over the years. As the bike trend is declining here in Europe and the youngsters have other interests than motorcycling the victims get older and older. No "18yo died in high speed crash" anymore, but pensionists die in the road.
A female colleague crashed and was heavily injured when she lost her consciousness while riding her Kawasaki. Could that have happened to him too?
Again, Iīm very sorry - god bless his soul :-(

Sorry to hear the bad news. The little consolation to be had is that he passed doing something he loved, and living life to its fullest, as opposed to sitting on the sidelines, watching it pass by.

God speed!

I'm a little afraid of coming off as a jerk after Henry posted about the tragic loss of his friend, but I just joined WUS, and am trying to fit into the community. If it was best to have just let this thread alone, please accept my apologies and then ignore me.

I currently ride a Kawasaki ZRX-1100. Got it used, so the price was right, and it seemed like a good fit for someone like me who likes to ride fast, but is maybe a bit old for a full-on sportbike (for an only bike, at least). Just got it last Fall, so I haven't put many miles on yet (I live in CT), and I'm looking forward to warmer weather.

I learned on a Kawasaki CSR250, a cruiser style single, but after a few months put on a "bat wing" cafe racer bar. I then moved up to a Honda V45 Magna, and I loved the style and the way that engine made power -- lots of torque, buit man, would it scream, too. I found that I still wanted to go fast in the twisties, though; I put on a flatter bar, but was disappointed that I couldn't do anything about the location of the footpegs.

The Magna was brought down about 13 years ago, when I was hit* about a week before we moved to Colorado. I brought the bike along, but never had the money to fix it (one of those crashes where it's all still together, but everything is tweaked). I eventually sold it to a salvage place in CO, and had been without a motorcycle since then (1994?).

Oh, my girlfriend bought one of the new Triumph Bonnevilles last Fall. She owned a motorcycle when we met (Honda Nighthawk 550), and used it to commute to grad school in CO, but sold it after she graduated and started working. She didn't find riding in the Denver metro area very fun, and I didn't have a bike....

Well, that's my story. Take care, everybody,
Rob

*Shades of one of the stories above. Crash was the other guy's fault, and witnesses even said they saw him empty a beer by the curb afterwards, but he didn't even get a ticket. Probably would've cost me more than the bike was worth to pursue the matter, so I didn't.

Thank you for posting your story Rob! As tragic as such a loss is, we should do it like parachutists. After an accident everyone climbs in the plane and jumps again!
February is ending soon and Iīm beginning to feel a certain itch. Hopefully spring will be here soon and we can start riding our bikes again.
Unfortunately I couldnīt bring myself to start tinkering on the bike. Still have to get that SS Goldstar exhaust polished and install a generator with a larger capacity. Still way too cold in the shed... :-(

been riding for 22 years.:-!

mostly vintage BMW's since 1988.

this is my current machine which i've been slowly working on since 2000.

it's a 1967 BMW R69S. since i picked it up (in non operating condition) i've:

straightened the cranks shaft
new bing carbs
new front and rear seats
replaced the clutch
hoske racing pipes
hoske gas tank
custom brushed SS hubs
handle bar setup
hella spot light
fitted a tach
hella barend turn signals
partial repaint
...and finally took the plunge to have the pistons and rings done...
that's just the major bits. lots of elbow grease, bike grease, and grunting and groaning working on this thing. it a labour of love. ;-)

amazing to think that this was the "sport" bike from BMW back in the 60's. this vintage lovely is a nicely accessorized by my Sinn103STSA on riding days.

http://www.rocketworld.org/images/67r69s_d-72.jpg

of course on the days the BMW is up on the work lift, or i am not in a kick start sort of mood, i'll get on the ducati. just sold a monster 800 and took delivery of one of these beauties...:-p

love that classic cafe style. 1000cc's of sexy 2-wheeled italian goodness. already got her in the garage prepped for some mods. this is a perfect match for my PAM104. :-)

This thread is killing me. I had a motorcycle for a couple years while I was in the US Air Force, but sold it when I went overseas. I've wanted another ever since, but my life has been too transitory. I think I'll finally be able to get one next year (my wife will surely be pleased ;-) ). Can't wait.

My first bike was a Yamaha RZ350 Bumblebee. I bought it before I had ever ridden a motorcycle. When I was in Venice at age 21 I saw a Ducati on display at the Venice airport. I stopped and drooled on it and remembered saying out loud as I walked away, " someday I will own one". I am with Ray916MN, I had never ridden one before I bought it and I doubt I will ever sell it. It rides like no other bike I have ever ridden in a way that makes your girlfriend or wife jealous.

Never owned a motorcyle but rode on two of my uncle motorcyles 3 years ago, one was a H-D Dyna Wide Glide and the other a titan custom motorcyle. Was a pleasing experience.
