Hello,

Im buying a Superocean Steelfish and had 2 questions i was hoping you could help with.

1. Is there a Steelfish and a Steelfish XL? Ive seen both terms used but in my Chronolog book it shows no such different variations.

2. Has there been a change to the SOS in that the sweep second hand and Other hands have changed? I hear people talk about now having a pointer second hand rather than the square at the end of that hand. Is that true as on the Breitling website and Catalog it just shows the second hand with the square on the end.

Thx for the help!!!

The Steelfish is 42mm, rated at 1,500m came with a Pro I bracelet at 20mm and is 100gm without bracelet. the Steelfish XL is 44mm rated at 2,000m is now coming with the Pro II bracelet although you still see them with the Pro I at 22mm which has no taper and are 122.5 gm without bracelet. There is a change in the hands being larger as well as the arrow second hand, although the Steelfish XL I bought recently has the larger hands but still had the square block type second hand. My AD told me it was a rolling type change on the hands as watches were sold and reordered especially the blue and black would come most likely with the newer style hands with the ivory/white dial coming later. He ordered 3 SO XL's two were special ordered and sold and one for stock, the black one had the new configuration on both the hands and second hand, the blue one he ordered for me had the new style hands older style second hand and the white had the older style on both the hands as well as the second hand. Great watch you will really enjoy it.

Yes. In 2004, Breitling introduced the SuperOcean Steelfish, which was a cosmetic variant of the SuperOcean with a different dial and part-brushed case. It was 42mm/15mm with 20mm lugs and a burp valve at 10 o'clock, same as the Superocean.

In 2005, Breitling supersized the Steelfish to 44m/16mm with 22m lugs, calling it the Steelfish X-plus. the burp valve moved to 9 o'clock. Same part-brushed finish. Most of the extra diameter appeared to be in the bezel and case, rather than the dial, which - along with the hands - is a very similar size to the older 42mm kind.

In 2006 Breitling dropped the "X-plus" bit from the name, meaning the 44mm watch was also just known as "SuperOcean Steelfish".

This year, Breiting has been introducing fatter hands and an arrow second hand to both the regular SuperOcean and the Steelfish. These are slowly filtering through to retail. But the website has been slower to update.
