I wanted an Omega Speedmaster from the very beginning of my watch collection and after doing my research I decided that I would wait for the Holy Grail of Speedmasters - ST 376.0822 Speedmaster Automatic Calibre 1045 with Day-Date display.

After looking "high and low" through my local watchsmith, AD and the internet and 15 watches later, I came across Chronocentric.com (Thanks Chuck Maddox) and I posted a question on the Omega forum concerning my frustration over its scarcity: Chuck quickly reminded me that its scarceness is why it is the "Grail."

However, through Chronocentric.com I was informed of a possible Grail sighting in Austria and on January 24, 2007 I said, "Yes - Please send me the info." After receiving the info and after recovering from sticker shock I said "yes" and bought the watch from a fellow Omega collector in Austria - Thanks HP. Also thanks to SW for the intro and logistical assistance.

The watch was picked up in Innsbruck by a home town friend working in Zurich and was delivered to me yesterday evening – thanks DP. DP is also a big Omega fan so I am grateful that he decided to return with the watch.

Unfortunately it is a dark and rainy day here making pictures a little difficult; however, here are some preliminary shots – I will post more later.

CONGRATULATIONS! :gold :gold :gold

The journey wasn't easy, but I'm sure that's what makes it so much sweeter to finally have it on hand! So this makes it what, still less than 10 as documented in the internet?

Well, not just any Speedy, but the super terrific, double-plus fabulous, Lemania 5100-powerd 376.0822. Faaaaantastic!!! A big, big congrats, Commish! It looks to be in great condition and on the beloved ref.1450 bracelet. It doesn't get much better than that.

As a minor point of interest, I don't recall seeing that style hour and minute hands on a 376.0822 (with the black centers), but they look to be aged relative to the dial. I wonder if some might have left the factory like this. Pascal? Chuck?

This is really an excellent find and I'm truly thrilled for you. I hope to find mine, someday.

Congratulations, and welcome to a very exclusive club! :-!

It is the first time I see a Grail with these black and white hands that were common on earlier calibre 1045 chronos from the mid-70s. The dial is perfectly correct though, so I assume that they were mounted by mistake during a service. It's a detail in any case, and one that can easily be fixed.

Don't forget to register your example on my page! ;-)
