Alan
That's really nice!! I've been drooling over some of the Breitlings in the Chronolog 2 I nicked from Lou...well I beat him in the auction.
Man there must be some people hiding the older models as I rarely see them?

Hi Lou,
Thanks - yeah I really like some of the 1990's models :-!
Yep I passed the written test, the flying test and the cross-country navigation so now I'm a fully-fledged licenced pilot (or at least will be when I get all the paperwork sent in).
I'm still a rather long way from those guys who fly gliders 2000+ kms in a single flight in the Andes though  :-)
Cheers,

Hi Altro,
You made me so jealous, especially I failed to win the auction few hours ago for an Aviastar. The ending price seems too high. :-( :-| O|
Look at the following link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8917950579&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEDW%3AIT&rd=1
Do you think the price is too high?
HOWEVER, I did win a special edition Navitimer few days ago at a low price!!!!! :gold :-! :-D
I attached some photos for this Navitimer, and also some photos of my Aviastar that I previously owned.

Hi Ppoon,
Jealous huh? I didn't mention; the average accuracy of my Aviastar is within a small fraction of a second per day (although it does fluctuate more than that on individual days but still well within COSC specs) :-)
Yes I do think the price of the ebay Aviastar you missed out on is a little too high. After all this watch does not have its papers (only the box) and it has a non-Breitling strap (with a very scratched buckle). Also there is no indication of when it was last serviced (probably never). Personally I would not want to pay more than about $1500 or even less for this example.
BTW one thing to look out for when buying an Aviastar is whether there are any chips on the edge of the crystal. As it is raised so much above the bezel it can be prone to receiving knocks on the corner of the mineral glass. The problem is as with any Breitling that only recognised service centres can obtain a replacement crystal; and they will insist on an expensive complete service along with renewing the crystal.
Although Aviastars are not common, equally they are not rare... you will find a good one at the right price but it may take several months of continually checking ebay.
Congratulations on getting the Patrouille de France - this is a very desirable and scarce Navitimer and I have seen these go for quite high prices, especially with the very nice correct bracelet like yours.
It would be nice to see some more photographs of it some time and to hear how you like wearing it. I am sure many people will notice it and admire it.
Cheers,
Ppoon

Hi, Altro,
Thanks for your advice on the purchase of the Aviastar. Much appreciated!!!
But, your advice is so complicated :-S  and hard to understand, so it would be better to send me your watch so that I can examine it in detail (at least for a year) and figure out what you mean!!!!! :-D :-D :-p
This morning I'm a bit upset, even though I know that the ending price is a bit unreasonablely high.
Let me tell you, last night, I nearly thought that my purchase mission has completed. About two years ago, I had two Navitimers and an Aviastar. The first one is an old Navitimer and the hour markers are not in numbers (that was the main reason why I sold it). The second one has a 24-hours dial, is a special edition with Lemania movement and has a display back. I loved it very much. Why I sold it? Because I couldn't get use of the 24 hours dial. For the Aviastar, I can't remember why I sold it. So, my mission is very simple:
= Get an Old Navitimer with numeric hour markers (mission completed:-! )
= Get a Navitimer with 12 hours dial, and has a Lemania movement and a display back (mission completed:-! )
= Get a black-dial Aviastar (mission ALMOST completed:-( )
So, I hope that another good condition Aviastar will appear at ebay soon!!!
Regards,
Ppoon

Hi Ppoon,
I was getting ready to send you my Aviastar and I accidentally locked it in my safe. Unfortunately our cleaner has the only key and she just left this afternoon for a trip to her homeland on a small island of the coast of Tierra del Fuego. Sadly there are no phones or mail service there so I can't retrieve my Aviastar until Christmas when she returns to London - sorry about that B-)
Let's hope you find one before the end of the year! :-!
Cheers,
Ppoon
