I currently have 2 Rolex Submariners (one TT and one SS) and I love them. I am looking to add a little something different to my collection and want an Emergency Mission. Any thoughts or feedback (good or bad) would be appreciated.
Thanks,

A stunner. I'm sure there are a few owners here that will back this statement up. Seems the only drawback to some folks is the low water resistance.

I have a TT submariner as well as the emergency mission. Since getting the EM the sub has been seeing a lot of the watch winder. The 100m water resistance isn't that bad of a deal. Great piece of the collection, now its time for the Patek and the A. Langhe

I have heard conflicting stories about the "water resistence" of the EM. With my Sub I can (and do) shower and swim with. I never worry about the water. I get the feeling the EM isn't nearly as water friendly. My AD said it was as good as my Sub (around water) yet I have seen a couple of comments here warning about water use. Thanks for any additional feedback.

The Emergency Mission is good to 100m, so the shower and the pool should be no problem. The difference between teh Emergency and the regular Emergency is the screw down crown on the Emergency Mission. That alon makes a huge difference in water resistance.

I'm sorry, which model is more water resistant, the original Emergency or the Emergency mission? Thanks again for your help.

Got mine in November, absolutely adore it.
Still can't take my eyes of it, and as for being a conversational piece...I couldn't even begin to tell you the interest it gets.

Here's a few pics take with my phone....

It was a joint 40th Birthday from my Missus and my Parents.
They got it from my hometown Authorised dealer in Northern Ireland.
I think it was something called "Elizabeth Arden at Argos" or something similarly exotic....

great looking emergency watch that.
would love to have one but just can not justify £3000 on a quartz watch no matter how cool it looks.
Navitimer is next for the collection then a chronomat on rouleax (sp?) bracelet and maybe a breitling for bentley 6.75.
all in the course of the next 3 years of course :-d

A couple of weeks ago I spotted this beautiful Emergency Mission in the window of a rather obscure AD. Black face, white dials and a black diver strap. I went in to try it on (loved it). She said this is a brand new, limited edition and they were only one of XX stores that got it. "If you want it you better get it today...yada, yada, yada". Right. I decided to wait. I posted here to make sure it was the one for me, etc. I figured who is going to buy a $4,500+ watch with an emergency radio transmitter and a rubber strap? I went back on Friday with cash in hand...My baby was gone. Live and learn. At least I didn't sell one of my others first to pay for it. New motto: Carpe Diem. Impulse buys rule!

Sounds like a fantastic piece, would have loved to see a photo of it.
Never mind, at least you didn't waste £3000+ on a crap quartz! ;-)

Verner- Were you being facetious about the "quartz" comment? I know the Emergency Mission is no Rolex (or other Breitling, for that matter) but I still think it's something that I really want. I got the feeling that you love yours. How could you not? What Breitling is the best combination between form and function? Is it the Emergency Mission? I want something that is awesome looking yet practical. I don't expect that I will be stranded and need the Navy/Marines/Coast Guard to save my bacon. I love the fact that my Rolexes are totally waterproof and I can wear them under ANY circumstances. I have worn them without incident for 20 years. I would like a Breitling that is comparable. I want to mix up my collection with something "different but equal". Do you think the Emergency Mission is "the one?"

Verner
June 27th, 2007, 19:39
Yes, I was being completely facetious.
A very small number of people on this forum seem to sneer at Quartz watches.
"If you don't have a "manual" you don't have a real watch"...............

As for the EM, IMHO, it's a complete stunner. I was fortunate to have the choice of which "B" I got, price regardless (apart from Gold/Diamond versions etc). After much deliberation and soul searching I chose the EM, and I don't regret it for a second. The choice came down to Emergency Mission/Emergency/Cosmo/Montbrillant......which was then further narrowed down to the EM/Cosmo. After trying them on several times, I plumped for the EM. I still intend to get a Cosmo soon.

As for the EM not being a Rolex, it certainly isn't. You'll feel the superior quality of Breitlings "over-engineering" immediately. ;-)

The EM not only looks fantastic, it reeks of quality. Get one, I guarantee you'll fall in love with it immediately.

And who knows, my next "B" might actually be one of those old fashioned "manual" ones, just to shake my collection up a bit. ;-)

Hope this helps,

Good hunting,

Verner

Verner- You are quite the spokesman for the EM. I'll have you to thank/blame when I get mine (which I am sure I will fairly soon).
I'm glad you enjoy yours so much. The pictures look fantastic and I can't wait to find "the perfect one" for me. By the way, do you have a rubber strap and/or a metal one, too? For some reason, I find the Diver strap one of the unusual features that draws me to the EM (plus the fact if my flight or boat goes down and I live, I can use the transmitter and possibly get featured on an ad for Breitling!!)http://forums.watchuseek.com/images/smilies/laughing.gif

absolutely LOVE the Emergency Mission. That piece simply screams "Breitling" and the build quality and detail is fantastic. I came very close to pulling the trigger on one a couple of years ago and missed the opportunity. Woulda, coulda, shoulda done it! I have quite a few mechanical Breitlings in my collection and only one SuperQuartz, the B-1. Suffice it to say, the B-1 gets the vast majority of wrist time and one of the main reasons is because of its incredible accuracy. The EM enjoys the same SQ accuracy plus it has possibly the most wrist "presence" of any Breitling. As do the other EM owners here, you will be very, very glad you have such an amazing timepiece. Congratulations and wear it in good health! :-!
Cheers,
Ron

Buy one now! You'll wonder how you ever lived without one.
Trust me, I'm a PROFESSIONAL (probably why I wear Breitling!) ;-)

dear golden bear,
the advantage of the regular emergency is that it has a main antenna and an auxiliary antenna, the emergency mission only has a main antenna, it has no auxiliary antenna. According to breitling, the auxilliary antenna enables considerable amplification of the transmitter range without using additional energy. in other words, it has a longer range than the emergency mission.

the advantage of the emergency mission is that the water resistance is measured at 100 meters while the regular emergency is only rated at 30 meters, but if you're only showering, the regular emergency has no problem with that.

love the face just not too keen on the strap but luckily we are all built differently or the world would be a dull place.

the EM is next on my list assuming it really is ok in water too 100m?

and as for the SQ not being a real B coz its quartz sorry but how many L's in Bollox, i have mech B's and a few more on my list but i very much like the SQ B1, E and EM at the end of the day it gives me something to make sure my Mech's are accurate and set them by!!!!

currently done by my colleagues solar atomic jobbie

Hi Alex,

I've been swimming with my EM dozens of times. I don't "dive" so not sure about that, but from watching what Bear Gryls did with his 30m Rated E, I'm assuming the 100m rated EM can take a hell of a lot of water.

Which strap do you not like? The croco or the blue?

What about the Pro II bracelet?

I like the EM, but for me it does not get any better than the ORIGINAL E. I have 2 of them and love them to death. The yella fella is a great new addition, and has been a permanent fixture on my wrist since I got it. I personally like the smaller original E's with the dual displays better than the larger, chrono EM's. All the Breitling E's are great though, so get the one that speaks to you and wear the heck out of it.

Hi Bear,

yeah I ordered the Pro II from my AD a number of weeks back. Had delivery problems due to the Postal Strike in the UK but when that was over the Pro II arrived within 2-3 days. I've now got a couple of crocos and a calf skin, and am awaiting the Rubber which I have also ordered.
It's absolutely incredible, as you say, how different the watch looks with different straps/bracelets. I guess that makes it even more fun......

For comparison:-

Actually the Emergency Mission stainless case acts as an auxillary antenna therefore it wasn't needed for this watch. They have equal range. The TI Emergency needed an auxillary antenna because TI doesn't amplify the signal on it's own.
