Thanks from me too! :-)

Somehow I could not find a movement DB on the Tsinyi site... but I found another link (http://jearle.free.fr/pugwash/) that might be of interest.

Maybe a bit OT here, sorry: Seagull uses the STxx nomenclature for their movements. Tsinyi seems to distribute Seagull brand watches but uses their own TYxx naming for the movements... are they actually equivalent, or does Tsinyi somehow modify the "STxx" Seagulls?

Hmm... the mail admin for the public.nn.gx.cn domain is song@public.nn.gx.cn, the one for their own domain is admin@nnsme.com... maybe you want to ask one of these?

Oh - I overlooked this.... - late reply

The TYxxxx is equivalent to STxxxx - no modification on the movement at all.

After being not accessible for over a month the site formerly known as tsinyi.com (Seagull Hong Kong) is up and running again.

New URL:
http://www.seagullhk.com/

Not too much fresh content, but some models introduced at the Basel fair are shown. Some info is lost during the migration to the new site, some watches are presented wrongly.

Hello
I recently purchased a watch on e bay with the name of CHENEVARD SWISS WATCHES AUTOMATIC CHORONOGRAPH MENīS WATCH.
Seller assures me the watch is Swiss made and has Caliber of ETA Valloux 7750. Watch was very nice but when I open the inside movement I learned the movement is not Swiss movement and there are no marks inside which indicate above caliber.
The workman ship is very poor in finishing of the movement.
I strongly advise stay away from Chinese made watches
I convince the seller since he misinforms me he should take the watch back.
He agreed to take it back.
I looked into Internet to find out where is Chenvard factory is but no success.

So I hope if someone is hopping to find the fact, this is the fact. Chinese counterfeiter are making mess of this industry like every thing else.

China is fast becoming a world leader in mechanical movement production and watch manufacture. The purpose of this forum is to share information on Chinese watches and movements so that we can be better informed consumers and collectors.

I'm sorry to hear of your experience, and doubly sorry to say that your experience is likely not unique, but buying online - especially through ebay - always makes for a certain amount of risk.

In this instance, Chenevard is a brand which you could only find on ebay. That suggests that it is a "myth" brand - meaning a small operation whose manufacturing is completely outsourced, typically to China. The Chenevard skeletons on ebay are listed in the $100-$300 range, which despite the use of 'Germany' and 'Swiss' in the listing, means these watches are certainly made in China of Chinese parts. The Inspiration model looks like it may have an ETA movement, but is listed much higher at $750 - but the watch, like the others, is almost certainly made in China.

So we've established that Chenevard are Chinese watches, whether or not the company is Germain. We have also established that use of the word Swiss in the eBay listings is both misleading and almost certainly false. Coupled with the fact that Chenevard does not exist outside of eBay, we can now make an informed decision as to whether or not we would buy a Chenevard at all, and if we would, whether or not we would buy from a dealer who either does not know their product or (more likely) who deliberately misrepresents it. Caveat emptor.

Thanks for the work! This is extremely helpful.

I noticed an eBay store named something like "TAO" timepiece. Their product line seems to be impressive. They also carry Dixmont (Guangzhou) watches. I like the TAO website. Any info on this Hong Kong company?

It seems like everyone think "Jualong Watch Industry Co" is behind the brand Minorva. Why then the bogus e-mail adress etc (i know that this to som extent is common in china). Are you sure this is not some guy named Long, an E-bay seller that has made himself a webpage, using a webadress at .net.

My guess is that this is just a bulk byer earning a living selling watches to guys like us. The webpage www............ (http://www............) is selling the same watches at slighty lower prices. "Minnor Watch Industry Co" has even more bogus contact information.

You aren't an "Industry Co., Ltd." with "200 workers, 5000 square meters workshop and international advanced machines" just because you say so on your webpage....

What do you think?
