As we know that China did not make precision watch parts such as shock absorber and hair spring etc until about 1960 and jewels until about 1965. So the 1st Chinese XIMA( jewelled escapement) watch, the Shanghai A581 and A611 was not a 100% locally made watch.
Then here is this myterious Shanghai 662 model. The watch looks the same as a Shanghai A611 with a chrome plated case . This is a very rare model even among experienced Chinese watch collectors, and I quess this could be a test run with 100% locally made parts, and therefore if it is true, Shanghai 662 should be the very 1st authentic locally made Chinese watch. :-!

A question is that if there is a 662 model, there should a 661 model before it ( 1st model of 1966). But no one has mentioned such a watch until now. :-S

Seagull claim the ST5 as the first 100% Chinese designed and made watch. What year was that introduced?

IIRC,it was 1967. It is a DONG FENG ST5A slim watch of very high quality.I am not sure if it has 100% local parts?

This Dong Feng is only 25 seconds fast per month. |>

Yes, it is the bad guy that made me lost desire to test any other watches. It also beats all my vintage Swiss watches including some good brands-Cyma, Marvin, Titoni, etc. :-!

Interesting, I think this is the earliest model of the Shanghai watches I've seen with the red-dot on the SECOND hand... it seems like all the earlier 581 and 611 models had the red arrow at the tip of the second hand. I can't be certain, but I think I have a Tianjin watch with the same chrome-plated case as the one shown in your picture.
