I have some gift money that I may use to buy a watch and am considering getting a Steinhart Ocean1. I remember a few of you bought them. Can you please post your comments and pictures? If you have any of the clasp that would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Keith

I have a Robert Diver that is made, i think, by same company, they just call it the Robert Octopus (the name for the green kermit watch which i realize is either loved or despised by WIS community). Regardless, this name no doubt keeps the Rolex IP lawyers away and allows me to humble myself on a daily basis with people who comment on my nice submariner (no, its an octopus).
Anyway, watch is very comfortable, at 42mm it's larger than a Sub or Invicta Pro Diver, but not as big as my current favorite, Oniss Oceanmaster at 48mm. Smooth ETA movement, better than my Omega SMP. High quality case, lower profile than other divers, bracelet it top notch, solid, tailored.
Clasp is good, has extension to fit over your wetsuit (casual fridays) finish is a bit rough on the top of inside clasp parts.
Lume is terrible, date mag needs to be better. however, the movement, overall finish, crystal, are wonderful, for $300 - $350 i feel its an excellent watch.
Tragic

"better than my Omega SMP" How so????
My Omega SMP keeps time to it's chronometer specs, smooth as silk.

Bad choice of words, how bought "as well"? Anyway, the movement or sweep of the second hand on the Robert appears to my untrained eyes to be smoother, not choppy (OK, maybe i have been wearing that Chinatown Yachtmaster too much).
Omega may just need servicing as it is 10 years old, but the last time i sent it off to the US center i didn't see it for 6 months, and when it came back the lume on the hour markers had brown smudges, like someone had dropped the dial on the floor.
I would post a picture but, as i assume you are a fan of the watch, it might make you upset.

Thanks John,
The Steinharts are selling for $395 now, still may be a bargain. Let me ask you about your Oniss Oceanmaster. I tried to buy one from SNBC several months back but the bezel was way too loose for a $250 timepiece (or $200 with coupon). I returned two of them for the same issue and ended up getting a Pro Diver. Just out of curiosity, how's the bezel on yours?
Guys, keep the Steinhart comments coming.
Thanks.
