Mitch Feig and I have been working on getting a replacement sapphire crystal made for the Seamaster 600. One of my pet peeves about the Ploprof is the mineral crystal which scratches so easily. I can polish the acrylic bezel and, if I was really motivated, polish out dings from the case (as if!) - but there's not much to do about scratches on a mineral crystal. I think the sapphire will help solve this problem.
In the next few weeks samples will be available, and I'll install one in one of my Ploprofs to make sure it fits correctly. If the crystal is correct and we can get at least 30 confirmed, prepaid orders (through the Ocean 7 web site), we'll go ahead and have the factory make one lot for us.
The sapphire crystals would be $80 without AR coating and $90 with AR coating on the underside. Note that this isn't much more than you'd pay Watchco or one of the other Omega parts houses for a replacement mineral crystal. I'd appreciate it if Ploprof owners would weigh in on this thread with the number of crystals desired and whether you want AR or not.
I realise this might be perceived as a solicitation and may violate forum rules in some way. But it's for a limited edition replacement part for a rare watch which is not available anywhere else. I'm trying to gauge interest - it won't happen if I can't reach enough Ploprof owners. As such, I'd appreciate the forebearance of the Mods and Ernie so we can get this non-profit project off the ground.
