Greetings from an enthusiastic amateur,

I have long owned an old pocket watch from my mother's side of my family, a medical group.

It is a verge fusee watch made in Scotland, I've never seen a face like it (I am an amateur!) and wondered whether anyone could offer some comments.

It was made in Glasgow by Lachlan and Fraser, No. 1483. I have been told that from the hallmark on the gold case it dates from maybe 1812 or thereabouts.

I still plan to send decent photos of more Roamers, but time is pressing and it may be near next year.

I am not an expert in such watches but I think what you have is a "regulator" dial. The large subsecond dial could come in handy for a doctor measuring pulse rate, or some such activity. That would make sense given its provenance.
A beautiful antique watch and thanks for posting.

Much appreciated Ray. It is indeed lovely. We had it in pieces for about 2 generations and I finally found an excellent guy who put it back together, made a few parts, and got it running.

Kind regards,

John Waterhouse
