I am new to this forum, so please bear with me.

I am trying to research a pocket watch for a friend. I have a few pocket watches and am fairly familiar with relevant web sites to search out info. So far I have figured out the target watch is a Waltham (American Watch Company) Model 1877, SN 1179510 , mfg'd approx Oct 1879, probably 17 J (based on NAWCC database), stem wound, lever set, stem is at 3 o'clock indicating a hunter movement, but currently is in an open face case with a replacement crystal. The OF case is why I am here ...

The case is a Fahys Montauk (probably YGF) with a SN of 6967726. There are also several sets of what appear to be technician markings: "3479H", "1549V" and "4042" + what looks like a set of script initials. Where might I find more information on Fahys cases? in particular the mfg date for this case and the meaning of the "markings"?

Thanks.

Obviously the watch was moved from a hunter to an open face case at some time in its life, which is a common thing especially with such an old Waltham.
Here's some info on the Fahys company from Google. Apparently they were based on Long Island.

Markings on the case are watchmaker service notes. They don't have much meaning to the average person and usually cannot be interpreted as there is no standard system of marking.
Unfortunately there are no case maker records around and case serial numbers are meaningless today so you'll not be able to identify the date of its manufacture, although you know it's later than 1879.
