I have an Elgin 10k man's pocket watch serial #P946133. On inside, it has Elgin 542 USA. 17 jewels, 16 adjustments. On face it reads Elgin De Luns & there is no 3, 6 or 9 but a horizonal line for the 3 & 9. Numbers are gold on white face. Sunken second hand dial has black numbers & sits at bottom between 5 & 7. On the back has initials C.F.F. (which I believe might indicate the Swiss Railway (French). I got the watch when my mother died about 3 yrs. ago. I believe she had gotten it from her brother-in-law. It still works.

It's a 10S Elgin grade 542 made in 1952, so it's a relatively modern Elgin in a compact size.
I don't know what they would have used in the European railways but this one would be too small and not jeweled enough to meet North American railroad grade specifications.
