Guys, I have a very important interview tomorrow!
After 2 years in a pain in the a?$* job for a major oil company, I have been working for 10 years, I decided last week to move along....
so tomorrow is the BIG day, first interview in 10 years for a new job in a total different area and boy I AM nervous. Normally I am on the other side, I am the guy interviewing people....:-(.
So, You have heard it before, there is only one chance to make a good first impression:
I will be wearing a black Boss suit, white shirt, white and diffrent tone of gray tie, italian handmade shoes and......
1. Seadweller?
2. my '65 Speedy on a 1450 bracelet?
3. Suunto T4?
4. Enzo?
5. Seiko OM?
I am kind of thinking that every one of these pieces sends out messages to the Interviewer (WIS thinking...isn't it?)......but I must be a freak.
Help me out guys, I have an idea, but I do not want to interfere with your comments.

My thoughts.....wear the least impressive watch you own. Not the least impressive to YOU, but the least impressive to them. Something common and not flashy.
Making an understatement is the thing to do. I'm an old head and have worked
for myself for 30 years and thats what I look for. No 2k suits and Italian loafers.
Just dress nice and conservative, no flash and say what you mean and mean what you say. Its worked for me for all these years.
The best of luck in you future endevors!

...what is more conservative and classic than a black well cutted suit, and I only wear italian shoes, so I do not think that would be to much....hey, that's me. Anyway I understand what you men Jim and thanks for the support. Still a plastic watch with a classy suit, that would be flashy isn't it? I have to keep in mind that I need to sell myself, as expensive as possible, and look like I am comfortable with it.......which I think I am in that outfit.

Sorry about the Italian shoe thing. I'm in the US and they are very expensive here.
The dark suit, White shirt and the speedy sounds about right. Just be cool.

Sounds to me like you'll look the part, classy and understated, like you I'm used to being the interviewer and I like to see someone who's made an effort, Speedy for sure, and best of luck, hope it goes well.

It all depends on your age and the job you are seeking. I do quite a number of interviews myself. Yes, I do notice watches, but of course, I'm a watch nut.
Anyone under 30 wearing a Rolex would raise some doubts for me. Perhaps he's too wealthy for this job; perhaps not hungry enough.
Anyone wearing an easily identifiable fake Rolex has $hit for brains wearing that thing to an interview. Now, that having been said, I do have a fake Rolex that I wear every now and then - mainly to agitate some friends who hate fake Rolexes.
If you are 25 - 35, a nice low-profile swiss automatic watch on a leather strap is most impressive....let's say an Oris Artiler, or something along that line.
If you are a seasoned businessman - you can get away with a Rolex Datejust, or even a steel Submariner; I wouldn't be wearing a Daytona or solid gold presidents to the interview.
Executive types can get away wearing most anything Omega - seadweller, speedmaster, etc.
Unless you are a teckie, I'd stay away from digital watches.
Out of the list, I'd probably pick the Speedmaster.

As others said, don't go flashy so stay away from Rolex. They can sent the wrong message and you don't know the person on the other side of the table well enough to try it. With the suit and tie you do need a nice watch to complement the rest, so the Speedy is a good choice. Not flashy and if you happen to meet someone who knows his watches you have something good to talk about. It's the watch I wear most when in my business outfit (together with the De Ville).

Speedy on the 1450...:-!:-!:-!
Fingers crossed..;-)

Yes, Speedy is a great choice because it's relatively understated, looks great with a suit, is "under the radar" and won't send out the "Look what I'm wearing" statement a Rolex tends to do. I'd also say you'd also get points if the interviewer recognized it.
On that note, many years ago, I got hired by an Aquarium shop mainly because I was wearing the same Seiko diver as the owner.

65 Speedy would be my choice. I hope you get the job.

It is understated and does not stand out like the Rolex (which would be my last choice to wear...). Also, if the person interviewing you is a WIS you could score major points with the Speedie...:-!

You do not own a dress watch! Dweller with a suit, hell no, wrong message. And it will look dumb. OM, don't think so. Suunto, yeah right. Enzo, what's that? Speedy.............maybe on a black strap. I wish you all the luck in the world, but you don't really own a watch that should be worn with a black suit and fine Italian shoes. Good luck and do not wear that damn rolex. David
PS: Lets go shopping for the proper dress watch, I love spending OPM.

Best of luck tomorrow, Pacchi!
This topic has come up before, and I guess it depends on your work environment and your generation, among other things, but "sport" watches are perfectly acceptable with a suit, in my view. I have plenty of clients who wear their Rolexes (real and fake) with suits and ties and all that fancy stuff. Me, I can hardly stand tucking my shirt in.
My obvious bias aside, I'd go with Speedy. The Rolex is a toss-up; it could impress or it could be interpreted negatively.
Again, good luck!

Speedy, no doubt in my mind. Perhaps even better on a black croco strap.
Good luck!!

The Speedy is of course the only choice- should the interviewer be a WIS you are a shoe in (he'll want the company!!) if not he won't notice it.
Still...... I believe that everybody with more than a few watches should have a 'dress watch'. It just matches a suit better. I know people wear divers with suits everyday- but I see people with Mickey Mouse ties, golf belts and suede shoes with a suit all the time too, all are 'OK' - and only OK. I try to do a little better(with my face I have to!!!)
Remember, as a WIS it's your duty to keep watch sellers and repairpersons in business-so get out there and get to work!
Good luck-Don

He called me up today, to inform me that I would have an next level Interview with the CEO of the company, so all seems well so far....:-p

Congrats Pacchi!
One thing you might want to consider next time (if there is a next time besides the CEO interview) is your crowd and also the people you ask for opinions.
You're in Luxembourg, right? Well, most of us North Americans have a different value system than you trendy Europeans. I read this in some of these forums from time to time -- Europeans are raised to appreciate good taste and nice things, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. I like how Europeans value good, reputable names and companies. In fact, people would take you more seriously in some circles the more you display your knowledge of the finer things.
Here in the US, prospective employers value modesty and just want to get down to business. There's nothing wrong with that either. I think it's cool and disarming how George Bush wears (wore?) a Timex.
My point is you need to recognize who YOUR audience is and act accordingly. Mr. Moose is right: you should stay clear of the divers. You don't want to come across as "the candidate who doesn't know how to dress," do you? ;-)
Incidentally, GQ endorses the Speedmaster for all occasions (even if they confuse the Moonwatch with the Broadarrow): http://men.style.com/gq/fashion/landing?id=content_5656

....oops,it is true! I never told you what I wore, I went for the Speedmaster, which is always the right choice (It was my favourire from the beginning on...).
The sales manager who interviewed me, definetly noted what kind of watch it was, being some kind of WIS himself, he just stated at the end of the interview when we were talking of my hobbies (I definetly wrote on the CV that I was a watch collector), ' Hmmm, nice watch you got there, it is a manual wind, right....' So this guy knows his stuff......
I think this is going to be cool....
