Hi Chaps,
Debating a PO but have read plenty about the AR coating, from your experience how likely is the outer AR coating to get scratched is it really easy to get scratched or is it only 'substantial' scrapes/knocks that cause it?
In a nuthsell am I, after a week gonna think this is crap and blast it off?

Hi Ryan,
I've had mine since July 07. I am careful but I've accidentally wacked it more than once....no problems scratching the coating... so far.
I'm familiar with one review (compares PO to Rolex Sea-Dweller) that calls the outer AR coating a "deal breaker". Here's the link:

Here's another review comparing the P.O. to the SMP 2255.80

My experience? Fantastic watch, beautiful to look at, and wears well...I actually think it's shrinking over time.....accuracy out of the box started at +2 seconds per day, now it's + 1 second per day. No problems so far with the outer AR coating. No regrets at all. Absolutely delighted I bought it.
Regards,
Mike

Got my PO second hand and it was scratched when I got it. Story was it was banged against a bed post (doing what I wont care to speculate). At any rate, ive owned it almost two years now and have not added a single scratch to it, so my vote is if you want the PO, get it. The AR coating is not a deal breaker. And if it does get scratched beyond your acceptance, have it removed. There are various remedies available to "blast it off".

Cheers Mike!:-! The SD v PO review started putting me off so it's great to hear your experience as I really like the blue hue the dial has and kind of makes the watch for me so I wouldn't want to remove the ARC unless it scratched up real bad

I've bumped my PO a few times, and never the worse for wear. I like the functionality of the coating, it's something I didn't expect. Don't see me ever wanting to remove it.

I don't own a PO, yet, but when I went to the local AD to have a look at it their PO had scratches on the outer AR coating. I really don't think that it is a deal breaker though as you can always remove the AR and not have to worry about it.

I've had mine since July, I wash the car, cut the grass in it, wear it to the beach, there's not a mark on it, I wouldn't worry about it mate.

You're welcome Ryan....and remember, there's always this foolproof remedy (*cough*).

since Jan 07. I wear it as a tool watch and don't baby it. No problems after several good knocks. I wouldn't worry about it. If it gets scratched too bad, polish it off. You will still have the inner AR coating. - David

I have the PO as well - I try not to bang it but being somewhat clumsy it's only a matter of time. As far as the "dealbreaker' comment - doesn't make much sense to me. Even if it became scratched to the point of being noticeable you could use Polywatch to remove the outer AR coating. You'd still have the interior AR coating which puts you ahead of the Seadweller.

if it gets badly scratched, yes, yet another excuse to tell the misseus you need another watch. "Oh its scratched now i can tell the time. need a new watchy please!"

I've only had mine a month but I banged it really hard on a doorway the first day I had it but no scratch or damage.

Don't worry about it. I also have a PO and there's no scratch on the AR coating, even after some really hard hits on metal objects.

My PO is my daily wearer and it's had it's fair share of confrontations with other objects. No scratches on the AR. I think you'll be OK unless you rub it against a brick.
Plus it looks really cool in the light:

I thought I would hate the AR coating but after a year still love it.
Looks like the crystal is invisible. Yes it picks up smudges but you can wipe it clean. If you scratch it - remove it
