View Full Version : I need to vent . . .

This is well off topic but I'm in a bad mood :-|

Bought the new Expansion pack for Flight Simulator X today. Lured by the attraction of the Merlin helicopter (built in the next county over from me and occassionaly test flown past my office) and the F-18 Hornet with carrier landings and take-offs. If Flyinghell34 can do it, surely I can too, huh, I mean, how hard can it be?! (That's a joke mate!)

So why, in it's infinite ****ing wisdom, did Microsoft decide to release an expansion that doesn't run on a machine that can run the original game (albeit dialled down some). I don't want the super-dooper rendering of instanbul, the multi-player racing. I don't even want the P-51 Mustang. I just want to fly a merlin and a hornet but no, all the installation program does is mock my laptop's graphics card, stamp it's foot and refuse to do anything else.

All of a sudden all my loathing of pc games has come crashing back. I mean, if you buy a PS2 game and you've got a PS2, voila, it works. You buy a Breitling (see how I've craftily forced it back near the topic?!) and if you've got a wrist, voila, it works. Buy a PC game and unless you bought your computer yesterday, you're ****ed. 'Oh you're trying to play me with a puny XVY65 ceramic core but you need at least a ZoomSky 93 VirtuaPort Mark 3. As if! And you're ugly.':rodekaart

Bill Gates hates me personally. Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh.

I feel better for venting.

OT icon fixed. See I feel for you rik ;-).

I've been holding off purchasing a new laptop because they can't run FSX. NVidia just came out with a new card 8800gt that should handle it. Now they just need to make a laptop version.

Bill Gates hates me personally. Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh.
Don't feel too bad, evidently he hates me too. And Steve Jobs hates me even more.

Does you good to vent or rant every now and then. A grievance shared, etc.

Used to spend A LOT of time on flight sim. Far too much to be honest. The habit starting getting serious. So now I've moved to the real thing. Also a serious habit. Still haven't worked out if that's a good thing or bad thing. ;-) :-!

Part of the reason why I stopped was the shear displeasure of dealing with Windows and MS flight sim.

FH34 - I can't decide whether that's worrying or not! BTW, in case it helps in your day job here's a quote from the 'tips' section of the manual regarding deck landings: 'If you can't see the top of the deck throughout your approach, you're too low.' No? Really?!

Gav - How good is that looking? Are you doing the round the world flight again this year BTW?

Everyone else - Thanks for the empathy, and Snap, thanks for fixing my mistake!

Rik! You babbling fool.

WHY not go back to the original flight sim for the Sinclair ZX81!!!! remember that? a bunch of squares and I still got excited!!!

BUT I do sympathize re the updates. Sometimes it's a damn pain in the butt. My guys at work totally rebuilt my flight sim pc at my expense.....and it was expensive, just to get the framerate!!!!

Did you ever try Carrier Operations for FS2004? Way tough.

But hey, the thing I'm most looking forward to is SquawkBox for FSX, I miss real time ATC from the great guys in their bedrooms!!!! Makes me nervous!

I hope you get it up and running, I'm also thinking of buying it too!

Have a goon 'un mate.

Davey!

Hi rik.

Yes, World Flight 2007 starts 23.00 zulu 4th November. First flight is YSSY to YPDN, Sydney to Darwin.

This year we're going the "worng" way round, east to west, and the routing taking us over China and Russia so the metric calculators will be out in force!!:-s

Looking forward to some interesting landings like St Maarten. Should be fun and of course all to help the wonderful work that ORBIS carries out aroung our globe.
