View Full Version : I want another Tag....

About 14 years ago, I received a quartz Formula 1 Tag as a gift. In those 14 years, I have worn this watch extremely hard and aside from a repair to the band and some changed batteries, I have never had a problem. In fact, it looks almost new. Quite astounding.

I am thus realizing that I am a convert to the Tag watch and am now thinking of upgrading. I would appreciate anyone's advice -- as to what model I should look at, issues I should consider or where I should buy.

A few preliminary questions/issues:

(1) I am assuming I should go with an automatic. Everyone agree?

(2) I actually use the chronograph, so I want to stick with that.

(3) I have generally liked the Links I have seen. Worth looking at other models? Am I missing something here that someone recommends? (Am I showing my watch naivitee by even asking the question?)

(4) I looked on Amazon and was instantly confused. Several Links that appeared to identical to one another, had substantial price differences. For example, the watch with serial number CJF2111.BA0576 shows up twice on Amazon wih a slight color difference but an $800 price tag difference. Am I missing differences in the watches? What is the big price gap about?

(5) Where should I buy if I don't buy from Amazon? I work near Tourneau in midtown NYC, but believe that they significantly mark-up their merchandise.

Overstock.com has a number of great deals on new Tags. I just bought the Link Automatic Chronograph with the blue dial (cjf2114). If you're an American Express card holder, you can get a 10% Overstock.com discount when you go the link on the Amex website. Plus, there is generally no tax charged and shipping is only $2.95. Best of luck.

Speaking to the Amazon price difference:

Some of the difference may have been down to quartz vs. auto, if there is such a beast as a Quartz Lin (I think there is...).

The other factor may be that these days, when you buy from Amazon, you may not actually be buying from Amazon; they have so many tie-in's with other vendors that it gets really confusing, and often leads to discrepancies in pricing.

... Or I could be full of crap...

Also, I checked the prices on Overstock and they didn't look that great. One model looked like the last generation Link, but I could be missing something. Of you post up around here for a referral, you'll likely get a couple that are local to you, and offer a gernerous discount. Plus, you get the advantage of dealing with an authorized dealer, which - as I have learned - is an important part of the watch game. Always good to preserve the warranty :-)

Hello,
When I Purchased My Tag I Brought It From Fortunoffs In Wayne Nj.
It Listed For 1875 + Tax.
The Woman Gave Me A Great Discount I Paid 1400 Including Tax And An Extra Years Warranty For Free From Fortunoffs.
I Even Went Back And Brought My Wife The Aquaracer Diamond That Listed For 2700 And Got It For 2100.
I Would Check Them Out.
All The Best

My 2 cents : new watch / used watch difference
If there's a color difference, the serial number is not the same. The last digit before the dot is for the color of the dial.
example:
CJF2110.BA0576 --> black dial
CJF2111.BA0576 --> white dial

- Automatic or Quartz?
Depends on what you like and what you do with your watch.
Quartz movements have no value from a watch enthusiast point of view. But they are more accurate.
If you want to take care of you watch, go automatic (no golfing wearing the watch ;-))

- Other TAG models?

Links are fine watches maybe you also could take a look at the Carreras

Right here for the Carrera (http://www.tagheuer.com/the-collection/carrera/automatic-chronograph/index.lbl?w=CV2010.BA0786)

IMHO, they carry more of the brand history than the links and they are damn fine! |>
