    Antarctic exploration watch

    I've got this watch.

The dial is speaking of "Sovietskaia Antarticheskaja Ekspedizija" (sorry for poor tranlitteration)

Now I'm curious about the sovietic antarctic explorations. I didn't find enough on Wikipedia. I'd like to know to which expedition the watch is dedicate; who started for those expedition; what happened... everything you know.

And where I could find more about.

    :thanks

    hello!
here is the link to wikipedia page about Soviet Antarctic Expedition.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_...tic_Expedition

There were three kinds of such watch from Raketa factory. Red dots on the dial represent soviet stations. The first issue had 6 dots that means that it was produced from 1971 till 1980. The 'Soviet Antarctic Expedition' writing is partially made at the image of Antarctica.

The second issue has 7 red dots becase in 1980 the soviets established 7th station Russkaya. Please note that the writing is made under the Antarctica.

The last 3rd edition also has 7 dots but the message is barely visible. Moreover the quality of the dial is worse comparing to earlier versions.
