Can the Komandirskie (NEW) chrome plated cases be brushed?

Excuse the question if its a stupid one! Im completely new to the world of Russian Watches and stuff! My first Vostok Komandirskie is on its way to me!

Just wondering if it could be given a brushed kinda finish? What im under the impression of is that once scratched (unlike SS) it will just flake off and show the brass underneath!

Someone please explain! But on the other hand, i've also seen photos where these chrome plate cases pick up alot of fine scratches and have sort of a brushed (less shiny) look to them!

I wouldn't try: the old soviet watches had a thicked plating so it might be possible they were more robust,but with the new ones I wouldn't take the risk.

I have the same watch, but with a different bezel. I like the idea of brushed but I don't know how well the coating Is on there. If you do it lightly then it should be ok. I've done brushed on other metal surfaces that ate really thin, just be careful if you do try it. I would test it on the back first with 800-1000 grit.

I actually only use scotch brite when brushing metals! I don't really do it often! Once in awhile to my buckles / clasps when there are a couple of hairlines!

Definitely NO. First, the chrome is not easy to brush, as it is hard. Second, you can assume the plating of 2-3 microns or something, by brushing you can open the base metal (which is supposed to be brass). If you really want a matted case, brush the chrome completely off and polish the brass :)
