I am not sure if I want to laugh or just cringe, but then he has what appears to be an authentic Type 341 sans bezel...

Does reporting this to Ebay by clicking on the "report item" link ever result in a BS listing like this "CCCP quartz" getting removed? Would Ebay see it as the seller's word against ours in terms of 'authenticity' for an item like this in the eyes of an Ebay employee who doesn't know Russian watches?

I've thought about that quite a bit, but there are so many frankens on eBay that I doubt it would do any real good. My form of protest against such obvious frankens is to post a link here, or to simply ignore it and let someone who hasn't done their research buy it and maintain the bliss of their ignorance. Russian watch experts are few enough that the buyer would never find out what a piece of unauthentic junk they actually bought. But I do have to say that, if I saw one like that on the wrist of someone I knew, especially if they bragged about it, I'd let them know the embarrassing truth, and they ultimately wouldn't care anyway. Most of the time, only collectors really care about authenticity anyway.

Hard to tell which is worse in this case really ...the "ingenuity" of the seller or the stupidity of the eventual buyer

Nothing is worth anything unless you have a buyer, and yet there is one (?)

I look inside myself and see my heart is black, I see my red door and it has been painted black. Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts, It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Close the door, put out the light. You know they won't be home tonight. The snow falls hard and don't you know? The winds of Thor are blowing cold.

Seele pointed out to me that the same seller had a Komandirskie sans bezel that was a dead on match for the fake. So I got them both for less than $40...so now I've got a complete black dial Tank Komandirskie and a fake to make an example of! LOL!

That's hilarious, JRM. I was about to post a link to that exact Komandirskie and make a snide comment about where the bezel must have come from for the quartz. I nominate the quartz for the Franken-fake Hall of Fame (alongside the notorious Ninja Turtle Vostok.)

You will now be the curator of an important piece of Russian Frankenhistory - bear the responsibility well, comrade.
