Shot in the dark purchase - Poljot 16 Jewel

    Hi all,

Just had this delivered from ebay, it was a total random purchase and cost a few pence. I dont believe its anything special, but I just went for it on impulse and could do with a bit of history on it.

I could do with your input as to age, movement, gents or ladies watch, intended market and any pics of one in better cosmetic condition than this one. It will be going off for a service and new crystal or polish of the current one soon.

32mm excluding crown and 16mm lugs. 16 jewel. Number from mech : 520672

    Many thanks as usual.

    Hi Rich,

It is a watch for export market (brand name in English) and dates back from before the collapse of the USSR to a few years after.
That's all I know, but other members will probably give some more input.
    Best regards, Tom Vreeken.

Just from looking at the bezel I see you have a Poljot, but it's hard to tell how many jewels. Poljot is one of the better names in Russian watches.

What you have is a very early Poljot. I would take a guess and say yearly 60's. It has a famous Pobeda movement modified for center second hand. This is very old and reliable design. Cool watch, if you get the crystal polished will be a even cooler

I've got one like this, but it's got a Sportivnie movement to match the Sportivnie case.
    'Poljot' Sportivnie
Yours has the Sportivnie case, but the movement is a Pobeda. I had no idea they were making them as late as this i.e. 1961-63 or thereabouts. That's not to say that it's a frankenwatch, more like a runout model to clear parts stocks.

The 'Foreign' inscription reveals this to be a UK-market watch, and one of the earliest examples of Poljot as an export brand name.
The origin of the ‘Poljot’ brand

...and it's a man's watch. Back in the days when we weren't so insecure

    Hello

This an early Poljot export model in ss case from the 60s. Small sized, but man watch. He has more variants :
    - cal.2608 - hand winding movement with 16 jewels
    - cal.2409 - hand winding movement with 17 jewels
    - cal.2415.A - automatic, 22 jewels movement

I have some beautiful pieces. Look at the pictures!
    Congratulate! Rare piece.

Hi, many thanks for all your very helpful replies.

Not a bad result then, cost me £3.00 Sterling. Will be getting the crystal polished or replaced and give the watch a service too.

Just a further question, what is this 'Sportivnie' ? a manufacturer or style of watch?

Will post some more pics when crystal and service is done

    Thanks again.

Sportivnie is a trade name. Made in the First Moscow Watch Factory.

in a certains sense.....as I understand that y refer to the famous vintage 'gagarin' sturmanskie because bothe that one and the sportivnie have a stop-watch provision in their pobeda mechanism.
