Vostok 1 watch any information please.

    Hi,
Could anybody give me some information on this watch?
I bought it a while ago because I liked the design of it, but have since become quite interested with these mechanical Russian watches and have not seen another the same.
The movement seems similar to the earlier Vostok kama's but that's about all I've managed to find out, so any information would be greatly received .

I don't know much about the dial, at least, how authentic it is. The movement, however, was made at the Vostok factory in Chistopol in the second quarter of 1959. It is a very nice and well-preserved version of the Pobeda movement that was made by nearly all Soviet watch manufacturers at some point in their history. The movement was made continuously for about 60 years, and is very reliable and easily repaired. Enjoy it!

    Thanks.
So the 2-59 is the manufacturing date.
I was wondering if the face was correct, would the movement have been made & stored that long before being used.
It keeps good time if I remember to wind it

The case has a rather Raketa look to me, I could be wrong though.

The dial is fake. Another fine movement wasted.

Couldn't that dial, without the red lettering, and that case go with that movement? If so, maybe it was modified by the owner. The modifications made don't follow the usual marketing strategies you see such as "death to spies" or "kgb", etc. Would like to know how it was advertised.

It's a frankenwatch; a 1959 Chistopol Pobeda-type watch (not a Kama though) with a fantasy dial. The Kama has a waterproof bayonet-back, but the 2603 shockproof movement is the same.

The dial recalls the style of the Shturmanskie worn by Gagarin on the Vostok-1 mission, and the inscription commemorates that mission. Applying it to a watch built by the Chistopol factory (makers of Vostok) is I guess a kind of pun. I'd hazard a guess that the dial is a recently made fake Shturmanskie dial that has been modified with the red overprint. My instinct is that it was created more for fun than profit.

    Thanks for the information.
I bought the watch because I liked the design & am very happy with it regardless of originality.
An interesting late 50's watch in good working order for £10
