No. Any enamel paint isn't going to be chalkboard flat, but you don't want the high gloss that comes with using a gloss enamel. If the paint in a an Amphibia/Komandirskie bezel is really glossy, it's probably not original. I'll try to post some pictures this weekend that compare a bezel with factory paint and my repaint.

Would you use this same paint on a second hand? I have a watch that was serviced and now the second hand is the wrong color.

Would I need to take special precautions to paint a fragile second hand?

Thanks, great post... I have a Komandirskie that needs very little paint...

Here's a side-by-side comparison of a 2009 Amphibia with all-original bezel paint, and a 1992 Komandirskie, where I've restored the red dots and dashes with Testors.

...and here are my other watches with newly-restored red bezel paint:

On the Komandirskie and Buran, all the red paint was already completely gone, so I just filled the spots with new paint. On the Amphibia Tonneau, it was just gone in a few spots and the paint that was left seemed like it wasn't going anywhere, so I touched it up w/o removing anything.

Funny thing about the original red paint on the Komandirskie -- all the red paint was gone, but all the black paint was/is still there. I used to wear it every day in high school (nearly 20 years ago), including in the shower, and all the red dots and dashes eventually fell off. I think the red paint is less water resistant than the black. Needless to say, I don't wear any watches in the shower any more -- even Amphibias.

thanks! I was actually planning to repaint the bezel on a new watch. Isn't it weird though, with the red star and the red army, such a symbolic colour of russia and the paint doesn't hold up to use that well.

    Re: Vostok Red Bezel Paint

    This is a great thread.
Just bought an Amphibian and was looking for a way to easily mod or change the bezel.
Think I'm going to paint all the dots and stripes black except one dot and the two stripes next to it.
Or go crazy and change the colours every week, blue, orange what ever.

For people curious where to get the paint, Ebay has it.

    Edit.
by the way did you use paint thinner?
