I posted this comment about the M177S & JLC MC similarity on another thread about the M177S:

The JLC Master Control itself is an homage to the type of watches JLC and many other Swiss makers were producing in the 50's/60's -- a general sort of Swiss style from the 50's/60's. The thing is, that style influenced the style of Chinese watches back then, as well as that of the Seiko and Grand Seiko watches even today. So while the Seagull is undoubtedly an homage to the modern JLC Master Control, it is also a homage to a traditional style of Chinese watches from the 50's/60's. That gives it legitimacy beyond just being a Swiss style homage.

The best watch is the one that makes you happiest.... and tells the time.

I've now been waiting 3 weeks for mine to arrive. I think the seller is responsive to emails and others have said that their watches were of good quality but he can't make the china postal service work any faster.

I've read about issues/problems buying watches from HK or China (e.g., delays, quality control, craftsmanship, miscommunication, etc)....any such or similar issues with this eBay seller??? Just wanted to hear some feedback about him...would appreciate it before I pull the trigger. Thanks.

I just ordered my Seagull M177s and asked for a brown strap. I used Truthhonestman too. I expect it will take about three weeks to arrive, but that is fine as it is for my birthday in March. It will be nice to see it in the flesh.

Meanwhile the ultra cheap Winner watch I bought on Boxing Day from HK is still within 6 seconds of true time. I have never had to correct it. That one contains a Tongji auto movement and cost £11 delivered. I have to say, I love it even though it is a wee bit big for my liking.

Great review. Don't own this particular watch but it's tempting now after reading your post & pictures. Seagulls are value for $$ IMHO. Classy and simple designs. I guess being out of china has its own stigma but this is a brand that has slowly built it way up recently. And I am sure there are many more veterans here who have a lot more depth on the subject than me.

Can't find the Sea-Gull M177S on ebay (trusthonestman) or at good-stuff.com. Is this watch discontinued?

Abbaew, it only took 2 weeks to arrive from Singapore. The watch gains about 5 seconds a day. Glad you liked the review.

Excellent watch. I love mine. The photos in the review are outstanding. Very 'arty'.

That particular watch comes in and out of stock. Give it a few weeks I am sure it will be back. In regards to the seller I have contacted him in the past he is responsive to your questions and usually answers within a couple of days.

These words represent so well my thoughts of some Sea-Gull -models including this, that I had to quote it.
