    My dads' seventies speedmaster.

This is my dad's speedmaster. He bought it in around '73. It's a mechanical watch and all original. Case diameter is 42mm without crown. I really love it's design and will allways be a bit of an icon to me. Can anybody tell me more details of this model? Often me and my dad are wandering what it would be worth these days.

I think it's a bit too big for my wrist. Anybody has suggestions for a smaller watch with the same look and feel?

    thanks.

That is a nice speedy and great connection with it being your fathers watch as well. If you think it's too big, I thought I saw a thread on a reduced size one, also can look towards some vintage watches that are in smaller diameter and might suit your wrist better if think it is too big. Maybe a SMP might work well, it is 41 mm without the crown. Personally I wouldn't sell it for the sentimental value and it being a family heirloom.

i wouldn't sell that beauty... though it does appear the chrono hand was replaced, it should be a squared off one, not the fan tail of earlier models.
it should wear smaller on the strap, when compared with the bracelet. i love the aged bezel, and looks like an original 1171 (note the trapizodal depression around the omega logo, later re-editions are square). enjoy that bit of family history!

I checked that with my dad and it seems to be true, he couldn't affirm that it was replaced but he told me that once the chrono hand was a bit crooked after a servicing and took it back to the shop to fix the problem, so apparently they replaced it.

thanx for the info, every watch has an interesting story so it seems!
