This review is truly appreciated. My buddy grabbed an SMP about a year back, with another friend having the Bond SMP and truth be told, the Bond affiliation has kind of kept me away from Omega (sad, but true), coupled with the ubiquity of a few friends owning them. That being said, I figured, since I do appreciate the brand, I would consider a PO, and this review, so thorough, helps further inform that potential decision. Now it is more a matter of what PO to get (XL or not)? Thanks so much.

Just read this review and it still interesting and relevant almost 18 months after you wrote it. So thanks.

Though I am strictly a SMP type of guy (because I don't like the extra weight and thickness of the PO) your review helped me come to an appreciation of the value-added qualities of the PO. The statistics also were very informative. All up, great job.

Thank for sharing this information with us. I basically face the decision between these two watches and cannot seem to come to a decision. This review helps, though :)

Great review. Having owned both the SMP 2254.50 and the PO 2201.50, I agree that the PO is the better watch. It costs more and is a little bit too heavy, but it is just on another level of craftsmanship from the 2254.50 and looks every bit its price tag. Particularly with the price of used 2254.50s and 2201.50s converging these days after the discontinuation of the 2254.50, I think the PO is the better purchase.

Same here - have just discovered this article in my quest for an Omega and it is definitely very well-written and informative. Now to save for my PO

thank you for your review as i am looking to get my first omega either the PO or the SMP (the blue wavey dial with skeleton hands co ax)

i think the SMP is the winner in terms of daily/casual wear. it is lighter and thinner which means less chances of scratches, easier movement of hands, and slipping into nooks and crannies.
