Dating a B&B royal gold filled hunter case

I have a Waltham Riverside 19 jewel movement in a gold filled (20 years) hunter case. The movement serial number (15000566) dates it to 1906/7.

The case serial number (on case back, dust cover and body) is 6002767 and on the inside of the case back 'Warranted B&B Royal 20 Years'. So far my 'googling' for date information has been in vain.

    Can anybody assist, please ?

There are no surviving case company records.

About the best we can do is look at the style and construction of the case, which isn't 100% reliable but can offer some clues.

    Ben,

Thank you. I suspected it was going to be difficult when I found references to B&B having been bought out and amalgamated with other companies. It's not really important to me, but it was an itch that needed scratching

Outwardly the front and back covers are almost identical and, apart from fine scratches from use, without any form of decoration/engraving.

The dial is similarly plain .... this image was taken almost 48 hours after the watch was first wound and set against the computer's clock.

Nicely finished movement, in sharp contrast to the blandness of the case !

Inner side of the case backs ...

Does this help with dating the case ?

I'd put the case in the ballpark of 1900-1910, give or take 5 years either way.

Noticable features (that help narrow the date range) are the long neck, onion type crown, inclusion of a cuvette (the inner dust cover), and the use of term "Guaranteed".

However, if you look carefully around the edge of the back where the movement is held in by case screws, there are marks from a previous inhabitant. Possibly several. That suggests that this movement was originally in a different case, and was moved to this one at a later date either because the original wore out (as was wont to happen with gold-filled cases) or because the original was solid gold, and the owner needed some cash during one of the many gold spike over the years.
