    Favre Leuba watch??

Hi. I'm new to this forum and was hoping someone can help me (I'm not even sure I've posted this in the right place so sorry if I haven't)!! My daughter (3 years old!!) was given this watch from her Grandad:

We know nothing at all about watches and was wondering if anyone can tell us anything about it. I've had a look on Google and opinions seem to be very mixed! It has 2 numbers stamped on the back: 58272 and 465. The strap is stamped at one end with R.Gold FT, Made in England and Xcalibur. Can anyone shed any light on any of this for us?

FL is an interesting brand. If some parts of the world they were a major player and in some, non-existent. It looks to be from the 50's to almost modern - it is really a lot harder with ladies watches as they often have similar models for decades. A picture of the movement (insides) will help date it.

The band is an aftermarket band. The watch will need service but if it runs now, it probably needs no parts (yet... don't keep running it without a service or it will!!!).

With some gentle polishing, the watch can be made to look almost new. Nice gift!!

Who is the company behind it? Why are they using this material?

Excalibur was a British maker of watch straps. As Eeeb says, not originally sold with the watch.

RG means that it is rolled gold (in effect, thick plating). Nice.

Many of my pictures were posted via Webshots which has now closed - and so have disappeared from WUS. Sorry.

Please don't PM me to ask for a valuation - I won't attempt one.
