    Gallet MultiChron madness!

Took some decent-looking photos today since it was overcast here in Phx. Nature makes the best lightbox.

MultiChron 45, Excelsior Park EP4 movement. Circa 1942

MultiChron pilot, EP40-68 movement. Circa 1978

great to see a fellow Gallet (and Excelsior Park) enthusiast, beautiful pieces.

one of my Gallet has a fabbed display back, thought you'd enjoy that.

and an 04 in a Girard Perregaux.

    Re: Gallet MultiChron madness!

Hi WatchFred, what beautiful pieces! I've also thought the EP movement should be on display, not hidden behind a solid case back. I really like those MultiChron 12's. The black ones don't come up for sale very often. That GP is quite nice as well, I have a soft spot for applied indicies on a dial face.

Do you have a photo of the face of the watch with the display back? Also, it appears that you are missing a piece on this watch. Above the column wheel there is an empty screw hole. If you compare this with the GP movement, it should have a fork-type of thing that partially surrounds the column wheel. I don't know what it's called, or what it does. Have you noticed the watch not doing anything or doing something out of the norm?

    Thanks, DragonDan !

here is a pic of the face, I see (or rather, do not see) the missing part, surprisingly the watch works perfectly, resets and keeps time ....

to sum up the Multichron and EP madness, here is another Multichron 12, EP-based:

Awesome watches. That top watch (with display back) does not have an incabloc for the balance wheel, which puts it circa 1942 - most excellent! Gallet only used those flat pushers up until about mid-1950's.

This is the part I was speaking about:

It is located here, circled in red:

Funny that your watch works great without this 'lil guy! Still, if you'd like it I can send it to you if you wish. I purchased a couple donor EP movements to get another Gallet pilot watch up and running, so I have a small amount of spare parts.

Does anyone else know what this part is called and what it does?

DragonDan, this is extremely kind of you !

I will contact my watchmaker who lives in the US, maybe he knows what that missing part is called and does/should do?
Had the watch running for 15 hours now, keeps excellent time, starts, stops and resets perfectly. strange.

Thank you again, kind regards, Fred

    Great watches in this thread.

Looks to be the brake lever and its spring which is missing from the OP's watch.
When the stop watch function is running and then stopped, this lever engages with the chrono wheel
preventing unwanted movement of the center seconds chrono hand. It is disengaged when the stopwatch is again set
running during lapsed timing events or to be reset to zero. The brake is not required at reset position as the reset cams
and reset kickers effectively brake the chrono runner but it is necessary when used as a stop watch otherwise the seconds
hand could be flopping about whilst attempting to read it.

@radger, thank you for the clarification ! surprisingly the chrono second hand does not wobble when I stop it during a measurement when i gently shake the watch, do not dare anything more massive ...

@Dragondan, thank you again for your very, very kind offer, I will send the watch to my watchmaker in the US with a shipment of watches I am currently preparing, may I contact you by pm regarding that part issue ?
