    Helbros invincible men's wristwatch identification...?

    Hello,

I picked this old beater over the weekend. I thought it would be a fun and inexpensive learner watch project for me-- I have a few questions:

Details: 37mm, Helbros "invincible" mechanical watch. The case back says "France", and "all steel".

    Questions:
    Year...?
How do I go about buffing out the plastic like crystal...?
How about the stainless steel, looks like it could shine a bit more...

I use headlight lens restorer on the crystal and brasdo on the case. This watch will look cool once it cleans up...cool blue dial.

I use Meguier's plastic polish on my crystals. You can find it in automotive parts stores. The case can be cleaned up with Brasso, but you might try some very fine sandpaper on a stiff backing for deeper scratches or Scotchbrite 3M 'scrubbie' pads to bring the finish back to a stain/ matte finish. I'd suggest using the white 3M pad to start, the green may be a bit rough.

Year? Looks like seventies - in which case it will probably have an FE (France Ebauches) movement inside.

Re: Helbros invincible men's wristwatch identification...?

I decided that the nylon didn't work on the older, smaller, scratched up Helbros, so I put on a brand new PCL bracelet from an ETA watch I had, then I got the scotchbright and attempted to match the new band to the old watch. I am happy with the results. This bracelet is all stainless steel, with a very solid components...

Good work for an early attempt. I have a Helbros that is one of my favorite inexpensive vintage pieces. Wear it in good health and have fun messing around with it.
