    Re: Need info .OVARAS

It is a nice watch from the seventies or perhaps late sixties. According to Mikrolisk, Ovaras was located in Biel and also a trading house in Sofia, Bulgaria, trading in upmarket brands (Omega, Longines, Corum, also Rado and Certina). I am not sure what all this means and whether Ovaras actually made their own watches at all. The watch looks vaguely Rado-ish so it might have been e.g. a Rado with the trader's name on the dial. However, that practice was rather more common pre-WWI and in the twenties (e.g. Patek Philippe or Carties with "Tiffany" on the dial) than when that watch was made. Opening it up and seeing the name on the rotor would help.

Ovaras seems to be still acting as an a dealer in upmarket watches in Sofia. Its still listed by Longines, for example: SOFIA - Bulgaria - Europe - Customer Services - Longines Swiss Watchmakers since 1832

Many of my pictures were posted via Webshots which has now closed - and so have disappeared from WUS. Sorry.

Please don't PM me to ask for a valuation - I won't attempt one.

Dr. Ranfft lists the ETA 2836-2 as post 1982... seems a little recent given the style but that's probably correct. Dr. Ranfft usually is!

Well, it confirms that it is a watch assembled by themselves or a private label watch done for them. No big name on the rotor and a generic movement. Still a nice watch - and you can hardly go wrong with ETA!
