    Omega from around 1953

Hi everyone and congratulations for such a great discussion board.

I just heritated a Omega Goldwatch, offered to my grand-father in 1953 for valuable service, but apart the mention Omega, there is no name of a series to allow me further research. Can anyone help me better define what Omega watch this is. I looked around a bit on the Net, but, hui, the watch vintage hobby is bigger than i thought.
I am not going to open it to see the movement, i leave that to the watchmaker.
The bracelet is original and features half a dozen of patent numbers.

    Here are two pictures

Apparently the watch doesn't work anymore, but i am going to repair and wear her (at least occasionnaly)

Thank you in advance for any help

With the case serial number you could look up the watch on Omega's website (you will have to register with them to be able to do so.)
If you don't want to register with Omega, then have your watchmaker record the movement caliber number, movement serial number and the case serial number and a lookup can be done for you if you post the info to the forum.
Not being an Omega "expert" I don't know if all Omegas or even most, were given model names.
As for the bracelet, I don't believe that it is from Omega, though it may have been installed when the watch was new.
I believe that it would have come from Omega with a leather band, instead.

    Hi there,

most probably the watch has this movement
    http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-...swk&Omega_30_3
    or one of its derivatives.

The manufacturing date can be determined from the serial number of the
    movement.

Only few model lines got names that time, e.g. Seamaster or Constellation
for Omega. Most have nothing more than a reference number, which is
stamped inside the back of Omega watches.

So simply open the back or have it opened by a watchmaker to get all
    informations.

Thank you both for your quick reply. As the watch has no case number on the outside, i will defintely leave it to the watchmaker to give me more infos.

    Best regards

I think the case might be gold, or gold filled. Is that a marking on the lug, or a dent?

That mark implicate solid gold case, while the bracelet is "double".

I see why i asked on this board, you see everything!

Indeed it is a solid gold case, it should be, as it is a gift from the employer to my Grandfather for 25 years of service, a tradition for some companies around here.
On of the markings on the bracelet says "Rolled gold".

Due to my fathers recent death i now own to of such merit -watches, his also. That one is an IWC, offered to him in 1975

    Brand new, never worn.

Thanks for your contribution, i will repair the Omega and wear a bit the family heritage, it is to valuable to be put in a drawer for another 50 years.

LOL, but they both worked a minimum of 25 years in deep and surface-mining to get this watches, so i really prefer working in the office and wear a 50$ Timex i paid myself.
But i am not complaining to be the owner of this two watches now, i was at the point of upgrading seriously, so this is done now.
