    Pateck pocketwatch with D&R inscription??

    Hi guys,

Some of you might know me from the Omega or Rolex forum.
I have a small question for you.

A friend of mine owns a Pateck (not Patek) pocketwatch with movement inscription, D&R.
Does any of you know what this D&R means?

Here some pictures of the watch..

Any info about the brand, watch or inscription is more then welcome..

    Thanks in advance guys..
    Kind Regards,
    GJ

The search function is your friend. 3 threads on this.

Known fake. I'd assay the case before I believed the markings...
"Forever is composed of nows." - Emily Dickinson

"The watch has to be surrounded by a history.
You need more than just a great design. You need to create an atmosphere around the product.
Who is the company behind it? Why are they using this material?
People need to be able to identify the watch with themselves. It's based on emotion." - Ralph Furter

...that's just my opinion and I've been wrong before and will be again and might be now!

Re: Pateck pocketwatch with D&R inscription??

    Thanks for the reply Eeeb..

I read all the threads about this Pateck watch.
I also tried google for more info about this paticular timepiece.
There are a few of these for sale..
And a few threads questioning the brand name...and I can't blame them I must admit.

But are you sure it's a fake?
I had this one in my hands and the quality is amazingly good, great detail and 18k gold.

Could it be possible that there is a ''forgotten'' small comany that made these watches?
Like I said, there isn't much to find with google..
    Kind Regards,
    GJ

Swiss copyright law is a bit ... weak, and it was very typical for other watchmakers to sell their own watches labeled with variations of more common names.

The 18k doesn't look to me like a proper hallmark; if I had to guess, it's a rolled-gold case (but probably 18k gold rolled. Its one thing to trick people into thinking a rolled gold case is solid gold, but misrepresenting the purity of the gold itself is dangerous, since it's too easy to test, and governments seriously frown on that).

Looks like a nice watch, but the case is probably worth more then the movement, and the somewhat exuberent sales pitch on the inside case back is a bit of a turn-off.

I woul go the other way: looks like a high-class fake using a high class movement (Breguet overcoil, fine adjustment, etc.) to try and pass itself off as an even higher class watch. And failing miserably (if they at least spelt the name right! But then, a 100% fake was never really the objective, I assume.....)

You can't be sued for creating a watch that says "Pateck". You can if it says "Patek".

Pateck actually was sued by Patek Philippe for trademark infringement way back when these watches were produced. Patek won this case. It was an obvious attempt to capitalize on the "Patek Philippe" name with watches which in no way were comparable with true Patek Philippe quality. Just another attempt to bilk the unwary consumer. Sort of like Bolivia for Bulova or Cimega for Omega, etc.

Just a short summary of what Loomes lists for Pateck:
    • Pateck & Cie , Geneva c.1910, fraudulent signature.
    • Pateck, M, Geneva c.1910, fraudulent signature.
    • Pateck, ---, Geneva 1880 (& Co. 1895).
Patek Philippe (and individual listings for for the founders) are listed separateley.
