A man with a watch always knows what the time is. A man with two watches is never sure.
it's sort of an art and crafts movement. it involves victorian era design applied to modern things. kinda like jules verne on steroids. the bad thing for vintage watch lovers is that they really like to make cute art projects out of watch movements. if you have a weak stomach then don't go to a website called Etsy and don't search the steampunk watch listings. then you won't see things like Hamilton 982 cufflinks or elgin 730 earrings. then you won't barf all over your keyboard.
omg i looked, thats just sick!

Arts and crafts movement? :P, you make it sound so quaint :D
~not really that silent...bit of a boring, meandering, waffling, blathering blabber-mouth actually~ :D
It's sort of a creative way of making "futuristic" things as someone from the Victorian era might have thought of it. Everything big brass and mechanical not electronic. If you've ever seen that movie or old tv show "wild wild west" it's kind of like that.
Retrofuturism is a similar idea but for the 30-50's.
I actually think stuff like that is pretty cool, but I'd prefer if it didn't mean hacking up watch movements like the stuff that sherwoodschwartz mentioned.
