LM-5 Chronograph? (Closed - see new thread)

Just an idea, at this point. A mechanical chronograph using the 7750 would price beyond where I want any OCEAN7 to be, probably around $1500. So I was thinking about a Swiss made quartz chronograph using the Ronda 5020 or equivalent, or an Asian assembled version using the 5020 or OS10.

Although an Asian assembled version would probably cost around $200 less than a Swiss version, my concern is that it will affect the value and identity of the LM-5 and LM-5GMT.

    What do you think?

I would love to see a quartz version,I would stick with a Swiss movement, and i think Rhonda are pretty reliable.Would an ETA G10 type movement be worth checking into??

I prefer the 7750 too, but if cost really is an issue then I'd be happy with a Ronda. Added bonus of a quartz movement is that it can keep the watch thinner. I'm a little surprised though, the pilot chrono uses the 7750 and is only $799~899.

Call it the G-5. I like Ronda movements, and with the movement availability question coming to a head with prestige mass-producer ETA I think quartz will gain ground and acceptability, esp. with chronographs.

If you are considering a quartz chronograph, the ETA 251.262 is a no brainer in my opinion because it has a centre minutes totaliser as with the Lemania 5100. This movement has been used in the Precista PRS-17C, Tutima Pacific chronograph and many other watches. Whilst it not the cheapest movement available, the centre minutes counter can be used as the basis for a homage to classic watches such as the Sinn EZM-1 or Aquastar Benthos 500 to name but few. All that needs to be done to modify the tricompax ETA 251.262 is to remove the subdials to leave 4 hands for hours, minutes, seconds and elapsed minutes, all of which emanate from the centre pinion.

IMHO part of the LM-5 classic appeal is the smooth mechanical movement - never needs a battery! So, I would vote for the 7750, even if it's a few $ more than quartz...

Are there any Japanese chronograph auto movements? If Asian means made in China - I'd pass.
