Exclamation Any advice regarding a stolen Nav ref 816?

I have received an email from someone who lost a 1968 Navitimer ref 816 in a burglary in the south of England last week.

Does anyone have any advice for him?

    Here's the email:

    "Dear Alan

I have had a Navitimer 816 for the last 34 years and it was stolen in a burglary only last week.

It was on a genuine Breitling bracelet and was well worn ( I have worn it daily for most of that time ).

The serial number was 1250875 and the number 0172 was also on the back.

Perhaps you might like to put this on your forum in case it's offered for sale.

    Many Thanks

    Chris"

Imagine owning a lovely watch like this for 34 years and then some scumbag steals it

    Here's a pic of a ref 816:

    Let's hope it turns up!

    Thanks....

Intrigued by the 0172 on the back.....

I am intrigued by "0172" on the case back of this ref 816. I wonder could the watch have a Valjoux 72 movement? I have seen a 1968 example with this movement but it had the reference "816-72" on the back instead of the usual "0816".

At the moment I can't think what 0172 could mean and am clutching at straws.

    Cheers,
    Alan

Ok this is speculation but 2006 - 34 = 1972! Given just a slight adjustment for estimates of time it looks like Jan 1972 as a date of production perhaps.
On the other hand it would be very helpful if he could provide a shot of the movement. Was he that interested in his watch? Would he have taken the photo?

Good sleuthing, but... he's given us the serial number 1250875 which is from 1968... back to the drawing board

Chris if you read this - how about emailing me some pics I can post here?

    Cheers,
    Alan

I would do the following in this order:

    1.) Contact Police/File theft report

    2.) Lloyds/File claim

    3.) Check all ebays

    4.) Check Pawn Shops

    5.) Check Vintage Watch Shops

There's more, but these are the
major aspects, & enough to start
a radial search for the stolen watch.
