Breitling Aerospace: Analog / Digital time problem

    Greetings,

I have a Breitling Aerospace watch which I purchased in 1999. It has worked perfectly (and is in perfect shape) until about 2 months ago. The analog time (hands) seem to fall behind the digital (LCD) time at a rate of a couple of minutes over a couple of days.
I have taken it to the same jeweler where I purchased it and they replaced the battery, but this did not fix the problem. Has any Breitling owner had this problem? If so, where did you have your watch repaired?

    Thanks for your quick response,

Hmmm. Never had this myself. Yet.

Sounds like it might be time for a good cleaning. If you have never had it serviced (oiled), it could be time after almost 13 years.

If your AD can't do this, you will have to send it in to Breitling.

That's my best swag. Good luck. Let us know what you find out.

I agree .. you might take it to the Breitling distribution agent in your area. In Sydney they have a watchmaker on the premises.

Re: Breitling Aerospace: Analog / Digital time problem

I took my B1 to my local Breitling AD, whose watchmaker had just come from Breitling training, and he wasn't up to the task. My recommendation is to send it to Breitling: the chances of a solution on the first attempt will be much greater than any other approach. For simple things (battery change), the local is fine. When your watch encounters problems (and it sounds like yours has), the proper approach is to let the Big Guys look at it.

In addition, it will come back looking new, with the bonus you'll know the work was done right. It's going to cost you, but it will be worth it.
I think I may make bold to say, that there is neither any other Mechanical or Mathematical thing in the world
that is more beautiful or curious in texture than this my watch or Timekeeper....

The beauty of the Swiss watch lay in its precision, and its precision had sprung from modesty. It did not have to be an orrery or a tower clock
any more than a yodeler has to sing in symphonies, and this friendliness to restriction had left the designers within easy reach of perfection.

Re: Breitling Aerospace: Analog / Digital time problem

    Bump.

First off, hello! New user from The States. I own two Breitlings, an Aerospace and an Airwolf. My Aerospace is the reason for finding this site and posting. I too, am having this exact same problem. I bought it back in 2005 and while on a deployment, the battery died. I had a new one installed by a certified Breitling dealer. However, since then the analog hands lose about 15 minutes per day. I have noticed that the deviation varies based on case temperature. I was hoping for a possible fix before sending it off to service.
    Thanks!

Re: Breitling Aerospace: Analog / Digital time problem

I have also had this exact same problem (though I've not observed the correlation with elevated case temperatures) with an Aerospace purchased in 2001. Many battery replacements later and it still happens intermittently, somtimes within weeks or months after the battery has been replaced.

However, I no longer wear the watch frequently. I am a pilot. I used the chronometer to time instrument approaches and holds. In 2009, while flying a small single engine aircraft on a very bumpy day the glow-in-the-dark paint in the minute hand fell out / cracked off. I suspect the simple harmonic vibration transmitted through the yoke was too much for it... so much for being a "instrument for [a] professional." That was the breaking point for me - I went out and bought a G Shock (am imperfect solution that has not been nearly as easy to use as the Aerospace was). The problems with irregular time keeping began before the simple harmonic vibration breaking paint incident.

I still have the Aerospace, and would like to make occasional use of it, but I don't trust it. Any insight on its timekeeping irregularities would be tremendously appreciated.
