    Re: Breitling Emergency

I'm not a pilot but I have an hobby level interest in radio communications. I remembered reading about the proposed changeover about 10 years ago. It sounds like it is a done deal. From what I read monitoring of 121.5 might be done by amateur radio operators. Additionally if the emergency responders knew the person in trouble had a 121.5 mhz radio they might able to listen if they also had that capability. I may be wrong but it sounds like 406 mhz is where pilots should be.

I've been tempted by that one a few times, what do you think? :)

Trouble is it only works if you are capable of activating it and there is an aircraft looking for you with 48 hours of it being activated.

I can see the sense in one as a back up but a bit like going on a solo dive with a 10 year old mechanical 100m diver....only an idiot?

Is this a sales pitch? Is it an encyclopedia entry?

It's great that you like it (I assume you do?). Not my cup of tea, but if you like it that's all that matters.

Apparently Breitling released an Emergency II in 2013 that does broadcast on 406mhz.

The Top Gear episode where Hammond used this watch and had to be rescued by Jeremy was epic.

If you use the PLB function Breitling will reset it at no charge. Provided, of course, it's a legitimate emergency. If not, boy...will you have some bills to pay.

Or a B-1 (which is what I did) or an Airwolf Raven (which I want to get), or any Breitling anadigi really.

Yeah, it was a pretty good one. The new watch is huge though. My wrist can handle some pretty huge watches (I used to wear a JSAR pretty regularly and it fit fine), but the new Emergency looks like it was eating my hand.

    Re: Breitling Emergency

I always like Emergency. It was on my list for a long long time. The hands are way too skinny on that design. In conclusion I decide not to get it.
Only were considering the Emergency I design. The Emergency II is too big and bulky.
