Ambull... I am glad that you did not make the deal. I have learnt this the hard way in my life... the willingness and the ability to walk away from any transaction gives you great leverage. Assuming you use a smart phone, download the app "watchrecon". Type in Blackbird and you will be able to see historical prices. You can navigate through the app and add some criteria to it and you will keep getting notifications.

Tudor (a respectable sister brand of Rolex) manufactures Black Bay Dark at 41mm (Ref 79230).

So I did end up buying a Blackbird Avenger, though preowned, with no carbon dial, and for WAYYYYYY less than $5000!!! Pretty happy with it. Nice addition to the rotation!

    Interesting thread indeed.
    This is what I gather:
1.- You See a watch that YOU really, really like.
2.-A complete stranger tells you that it is not a good value.
3.-You buy something that is quite similar to what YOU wanted.
I hope nobody gets offended, but this is pretty interesting to me. 😀

    1. Yes, loved the watch i saw in the store. Still do.
    2. Yes. I would expect nothing less than getting recommendations from complete strangers by posting my question here in this forum. I felt the advice i received was great.
    3. Yes. What I bought was the same watch i saw in the store minus the carbon dial, for nearly half the price, and i am extremely delighted and wouldn't change a thing if i could go back in time. I would still prefer the carbon dial, but the watch simply was not worth $4,500 and i am so glad that a stranger helped me realize that. I ESPECIALLY understand it even more so now that I have one on my arm. I am thrilled with it, but there is no way it is worth $4,500.00.
    4. I am certainly not offended. I am glad you find this interesting.

    Cheers!

You could've just waited for it to hit the gray market, some ADs are a pain in the butt with their pricing strategies.
I mean, hunting for the EXACT watch at the right price is f@cking half the fun of this "hobby".

By the way, I just saw the same piece at my AD. It is a special edition of Blackbird 44 with a carbon dial. I liked it too... it was over $5K though

I kinda get this..... There always been a few Breitlings that I loved, but never bought one. I saw the Aerospace Night Mission and litterarly fell in love with it. So I found it NIB for under 2k. Never pay retail. Regardless of brand or resale. And I have to admit the watch is awesome. The first and finish are perfect! Litterarly perfect. I actually looped the dial, ( I know bad idea unless you are spending "big dollars" ) and didn't see one flaw or imperfection. I have a new respect for this brand and am proud to have one in my collection.

Looks like your originally desired watch is up for sale... go to watchrecon.com and search for "V173102X".
