    Stainless Polish

Got some very slight(only noticeable in sunlight) scratches on the mirror polished sides of my steelfish. Can you recommend a polish to take them out and restore the mirror finish? I'm assuming it must have a slight abrasive to it to remove the scratches, but fine enough to leave the mirror finish. Non abrasive polish like Flitz makes it bright and shiny, but leaves the very tiny surface scratches. I don't even know if it can be done by hand, but thought I would check. Thanks in advance!

A lot of people have had good luck with "Cape Cod" polish cloth. Bed Bath and Beyond used to carry them.

I have had very good luck with the Cape Cod cloth. I got mine at Arbuchon Hardware. Look on line for a store near you. I believe any good hardware store would have them. I also have a series of polishing compounds I use with a Dremel wheel but this takes some practice or you might discolor the steel. Use the cloth and you will be very surprised at how good a job it will do. Just make sure you cover the crystal as it will remove the AR coating. Also make sure you wash the watch after you are done and wipe down with a soft, clean, terry cloth. Then finish with a microfiber and - as good as new. Be careful around the edges of the side and top as you will polish the brushed surface on the top of your Steelfish. Do I sound like I may have made any/all of these mistakes? All but the AR coating.
Good luck, hope this helps, any more questions pm me.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to clarify if the Cape Cod cloth would be ideal on just polished surfaces? I am thinking of polishing the inner surface of the lugs on my Seawolf, as I have incurred scratches from changing to straps using aftermarket skinny bars. I still used a proper spring bar tool, so the scratches are due to the spring bars nothing more.

I believe the inner surface of the lugs are hidden from the eye, but I just wanted to ask. Also, don't know if the surface is polished to begin with.

FJ, the inner aspects of the lugs are brushed on the steelfish. You could use a scotchbrite pad from the supermarket to restore the brushed finished, or a cape cod if you decided you do want them polished :)

Thanks Doc J, I actually have both the Seawolf and Steelfish. But on the Seawolf, I have taken the bracelet off and don't think the scratches are far from normal between the strap changes and then back to the bracelet. Besides, the use of the spring bar tool was an extra precaution and any scratches incurred are from normal bracelet or strap changes only.

Whoops! Misread your post and was looking at the steelfish on my wrist, and so assumed you meant you had the scratches on your blue SOSF.

Not sure whether the ASW has polished or brushed areas between it's lugs.. easy enough for you to check though! Just pop the bracelet off and have a look and see. The few photos I can find on google/WUS of the seawolf with it's pants off look like it is brushed like the SOSF.

    Re: Stainless Polish

Okay, I used a Scotchbrite steel brush pad to remove most of the scratches on the inner aspects of the lugs. There's still some scratches, just not too much noticeable. I brushed until my fingers got a grey film of metal from the steel Scotchbrite pad.

I then washed with soap and water. Followed by drying off with a microfiber towel. I feel like I did a pretty good DIY job. I hope I don't have to buy any green Scotchbrite pads, as the steel Scotchbrite pads are designed to scrub anything from a cast iron skillet.

Thanks Dr J. I really appreciate your consultation. My steelfish is newly serviced. But my Seawolf wasn't too personable until I brushed the scratches out from the lug area. Now my mind is more at ease both at home, from looking there, and in public (from wearing a new watch).
