    $50 for an F91W

Okay, I know that sounds crazy. But that seems to be what these watches cost (in today's dollars) back in the early 80's. This particular model was introduced in 1991, according to Wikipedia. So it didn't even exist in the 80's if that's the case. But there were certainly other watches that resembled it, with the same basic functionality.

Back then they cost about the same as they do today. Around $15-$20. I can remember paying about $29 for a Casio in the late 80's that was kind of like a 100M version of the W-71. So, the fact that the prices have remained roughly constant or even lower, even with inflation, means that people were spending a lot more for them back then.

My friend had an F-28W and it cost around $15. It was the most bare-bones, one screen Casio that ever existed. No light or even alarm or stopwatch.

It just doesn't seem right for some reason. Maybe someone can remember it differently. What do you think?

Seems to be correct, the G Shock wiki lists the original price RRP e.g. DW-5600C-1 - G-Shock Wiki | casio watch resources lists it as JP9800, which is modern day $123.
Nowadays the 5600E costs around $50.
The prices have gone down over time - undoubtedly due to cheaper manufacturing costs and increased competition.

Same thing with computers back in the 80's costing thousands of dollars for a PC, whereas nowadays they are hundreds of dollars.

Like most technology, basic digital watches got cheaper with time. I remember my sister paying $600 for a 12 inch flatscreen computor monitor. I paid $900 for a 19 inch LCD tv once. My dad paid $5000 for a macintosh computer in 1986, with a whopping 40MB hard drive!

Digital watches were more of a big deal in the 70's and 80's. Production costs have gone down over the years.

EDIT: WHoa, Davidro... we posted nearly the same thing at nearly the same time!

True, but this isn't really the same type of thing. No one uses those kind of computers anymore. They are practically worthless, let alone being worth hundred$ of dollars. But with watches, people still wear the same ones that were developed 30 years ago. There is not really anything else I could compare this to. Maybe calculators?
