    Aussie atomic challenge

Hi all I hear stories of atomic working all over Australia. Mine is not one of these success stories. My question/ challenge/ hobby/ quest is to get a gw5000 to sync in brisbane.

I know it is crazy to try. But are there any tips or strategies I can try. As I said it is a hobby to get it to stnc so no big deal if it doesn't.

    So any tips?????????

Yep, I always knew that you can atomic synchronize from Australia from Japan. Just make sure the home time in on Japan first, and then change it over to Australia time the next day.
    My daily five watches.

G-Shock MTG930DA-8V, G-Shock GW-5600J-1, Citizen Eco-Drive BM8180-03E, G-Shock Riseman GW9200-1, and a Vostok Amphibia with a Russian Navy missile ship and a Russian Tank on a stainless steel oyster watch band.

That's great Kynuna. I'll be in Sydney in a few months time and I'm going to try and sync a GW 7900, I'll post here about how I get on. Like you say, just a small hobby and no big deal if it doesn't - but I love the idea of being able to pick up that radio signal all the way from Japan. I'd be interested to know if anyone has actually done this from Sydney (Brisbane is a bit closer to Japan I guess), the Angry Possum said he didn't have any luck syncing his Riseman.

It's actually pretty cool you can receive the atomic signal from Japan. What probably happens is that the radio signal from Japan bounces against the ionosphere and reflect back on Australia. The biggest obstacle (high mountains of Indonesia) will simply be bypassed this way. This is the only explanation I can give for the radio waves traveling so large distance.

    Cheers,

I am in Sydney and have tried it with my GW-9200 (Riseman) but could never receive atomic signal here.

Interesting that the time signal can travel so far. LF signals travel a long way by ground wave, but can go even further thanks to ionospheric propagation. They can travel under water too which is why they are used for communicating with submarines.

Interestingly. It was been raining and cloudy lately and I haven't been able to get a signal.

Oh and a typhoon in Japan. My bet would be for bouncing off the ionosphere.

I live on the Central Coast of NSW and I have seven Atomic G's. I have never been able to achieve a manual sync and the nights I have switched them all to Tokyo as my home city, they have all failed to sync.

However, when I received my GW-A1000D approx 10 weeks ago, it has never left my wrist. At this time, I switched the other 6 Atomic G's to Tokyo. Over the last 10wks, only 2 have sync'd....my GX56 on the 22nd Sept and one of my GW7900's on the 28th Sept.

So I guess it is possible, but very hit and miss and certainly much easier to manually set the time yourself.
