    Custom blue display GWF-1000 Frogman

Hello friends!...I've been quite busy lately, but I wanted to drop in and show you guys a build I threw together this evening. This blue display Frogman idea has been a long time in the making, but I just haven't had time to put it all together, that is until tonight when I just started tinkering and it snowballed into a completed build. I'll try to post some more pics in the coming days when I get a chance.

To make the blue display, I scavenged the polarizer from a blue G8900 (a heavily used one I scored on the Bay). To remove the blue polarizer from the 8900 without damaging it, I disassembled it and soaked the LCD in 99% alcohol to loosen the adhesive, then it peeled off fairly easily. This left the polarizer with no adhesive, so to attach it to the Frogman LCD I just cut it to fit, which holds it in place well enough when the watch is assembled.

The case is from a GWF-1000G, for the blue lettering. I already had this case from a previous build, but I never thought the blue lettering matched particularly well with the gold, so I swapped the parts from my gold frog into another case and used this one for this build.

The blue eye is also from the blue 8900. I just press fit it in and it is secure. I'm considering painting the GWF-1000 eye with some transparent blue paint and re-inserting that, but I'll have to see how it turns out.

The jelly resin is aftermarket, RIT dyed blue myself. The blue bezel studs are from the GWFD1000, ordered from pacparts.

That's pretty much it. I still have some final touches to do like paint the arrows on the buttons blue, plus I'm sure there will need to be some adjustments here or there. Overall, I am quite pleased how it turned out however.

The result is very good. I like the way the GWF1000 looks in jelly blue! Congrats!

OMG! That's a lot of blue in there!!!

Frankly though, awesome build (as always) and interesting how the 8900 'eyes' fit perfectly on the froggy! How does this impact the backlight? The 8900s had a LED backlight so the illumination would certainly vary here?

Thank you my friend! The illumination is a green-ish blue with green digits. The result is very readable though not quite as crisp as the standard Frog.

As for the eye, it fits OK but I'll probably still try to see what kind of results I can get with blue transparent paint on the stock one when I get the time. I was able to do something similar on my lime green frog and it turned out well. For now I'm happy with this one though. I scavenged the 8900 down to the clips and screws so I just had the part laying there so I figured I'd give it a shot.

No man, it should be called "Mother Of All Blue!" Or more technically: Massive Ophthalmic Assault in Blue. Great mod, man, as always!

    hahaha!

    looks great man!
you def. had me in the wruw thread, i noticed the eye and was like, what the heck!
so does that mean the face plate comes out of the 8900 like the dw6900s or did you have to pop the glass?
