Question The DW-5600C and Zulu strap adapters

    Fellows,

I've searched far and wide through forums and the 'net and although there are many mentions of DW-5600Es being adapted successfully for using nylon straps such as Zulus and NATOs, there is not so much on a 5600C so equipped. My doubt is that because Cs carry a 18mm springbar instead of the Es' 16mm, will the adapters used be different as well?

Being a heavy user of Zulus (in mostly everything up to and including Citizen 'Zillas) and having a handful of them sitting around, I'd like either to acquire Casio's original parts (if anybody knows the part # for DW-5600-Cs) or Westcoast Time's. An email to Howard @ WC failed to confirm if his units would actually work on a 5600C, so here I am.

Does anybody have any experience in such a conversion, and are there any caveats to be aware of? What would be the differences between OEM and after-market, including cost - of course?

    TIA to all,

    Marcello GT

You hit the nail on the head, the lugs are 18mm wide and the adapaters are made for 16mm wide lugs.
You could try a mil shock look, though I think it may require re-setting the holes for the springbar.

Thanks for the input, Sherms! I figured so right away, but though it would be wise to consult with the Forum beforehand. If you happen to know the part # of the original adapters from Casio, I'd appreciate learning it as well.

    Thanks again,

Couldn't you use 5600e adaptors with very small spacers around the springbars?

That should work too, or even with a mm give on either side you probably wouldn't notice the difference. I think the adapters are discontinued, but might be worth it to give them a shout..

    From the g-shock wiki:
    Casio USA - 1-800-223-2001
Strap adapter (end pieces): Casio part #74243710

Also Howard at westcoasttime who sells his own adapters that are pretty much identical to the g-shock ones.

I've seen people using small slices off Bic pens and the like. That's an idea all right, I may give it a try.

Thanks again for the info, Sherms! I'll give Casio a call and see if they still have them in stock.

As for the spacers, I suspect that even a couple millimeters' slack may cause a wobble which in turn may lead to springbar failure and/or the adapters themselves over time, very much probably at the worst possible moment.

Having said that, a very sharp x-acto knife and a good eye may work wonders to fit the 16mm adapters to the DW-5600C.

    Thanks again for the input!

That's how it is done when using those adapters into the Frogman, wich is also 18mm.

    Valeu Dantas!

Right now I'm set on acquiring the original adapters from Casio -if available- and trying them out. If I cannot locate them, then I'll go down the slice'ing road...

    Cheers,
