Re: eBay seller sopanee: suspicious or not?

    Just an update...
I bought and paid for a GW-400J on Feb. 3rd and was given a tracking number by the seller on Feb. 7th. I had tried checking this tracking number on both the Canada and Thailand Post sites for the last few days without any luck, but as of today I am getting info on the Canada Post site with a package being received in customs in Vancouver. Will of course keep everyone updated.

goalie that is great news for all those here that have paid. I wonder if this is really all legit then (just a slow to respond/ship seller).

    Hmm...

Re: eBay seller sopanee: suspicious or not?

...And then the package shows up full of those prank springy snake things

I hope you guys get your watches.

Has anyone seen that story on the 'net where some guy sold a laptop on the internet, and the buyer tried to scam him? Anyway, after deciding the guy was a fraudster (I think this is how it went, can't remember all the details) he sent the guy a package, but instead of having a real laptop in it, he'd made this cardboard cutout in the shape of a laptop, with drawn-on keys and screen and everything. It was pretty funny.

There was another funny one where the poster had been contacted by one of those Nigerian scam email people, and he started communicating with them, and then eventually convinced the scammer that he was working for some text recognition/analysis company, and if he would provide a minimum of 200 pages of hand-written text, he would pay him $5 a page... and he sent him a scanned Harry Potter book to copy. The guy actually wrote (or had people write) the whole book.

On the customs subject, can anyone shed some light on how that works in the US? This is my first time having an item shipped into the US. Do all items have to go thru customs and is there a fee associated with every item that comes in? Is there a place you have to go pick it up and pay if so? thanks

mattmalick: I believe there is no customs charged on a watch worth less than $400.

TTT: there is actually a whole website community devoted to giving scammers the runaround, and wasting their time. The get them to do silly things like hold up a sign that says 'I'm stupid' or other various hilarious antics...I'll see if I can find the link/resource.

Thanks for the info, I had seen it discussed many times around here I just wasn't sure. It must have been on some of those expensive frogs.

Re: eBay seller sopanee: suspicious or not?

To add to what topher was saying, the likelihood of anything you order getting hung up in customs is virtually 0. I've ordered numerous things from Hong Kong and Japan via ebay and other websites and haven't had anything stopped yet. It is the seller's responsibility to declare a value on the item you purchased. As topher said if the value is very high it may be stopped. This is why you may see a seller offering to label your package as a "gift." I think the only catch there is that the package might not be insurable. Hope that sheds some more light for you.

Ditto via a system/personal email via ebay so all appears legit so far.

I am also fully verified, though have just had to re-add my bank account as it was unused for so long Paypal had reset my account as inactive with regard to bank payment transfers (thanks Paypal you could have emailed me to ask/tell me )..so a little note to all that use Paypal to make sure you keep the bank account being used until now I used Paypal funds from sales and since I haven't been selling anything for a while the account was empty...all the plastic associated with the account also had to be re-confirmed
