Gift G-3011 - maybe the ugliest there is - and came with dead battery too - still lovin' it ;-)

    Hi,
today finally my G-3011 arrived for which I had to wait some time (in fact it was only 10 days but you know how it is ). And the battery was almost dead too, so here's some pice of how it arrived and the battery change - I can tell you: that model is one big PITA to do a battery change on - almost like a Zen exercise: 'stay calm, stay focused, live for the moment, annihilate the self' .
    So here we go:

Battery almost dead - as you can see in the next pic (backlight wasn't working too):

So now the fun starts :

Notice all those tiny screws? Those have to get back in the case somehow (tiger2 had a pretty good thread on a G-3010 too, with pics of all those screws). The strap is also attached with screws to the side of the case - not with springbars.

The battery is fixed in the case in such a way that you need a needle or something thin and pointed to get it open - like on the GT-001.

Notice the 'Japan A' on the battery :

    New battery:

    Installed:

Now trying to piece it back together - here you can see the little screws holding the strap - and the pretty massive steel bezel:

    The side protectors:

    Installed:

    Almost there:

    forgot something :

So the whole process repeats - but then finally after maybe a half hour: patient is alive and beeping:

Man I love that ugly piece of plastic with the huge cartoonish digits (is there a G that has bigger digits? I doubt it) .
It fits my wrist like it was made for it:

But the strap is very short - so anybody with big wrist interested in that model - try getting the one with the velcro strap .

I already have the G-3010 so I'm used to the functions - the module is the same, just with a different display. The creepy eye is pretty cool also - but completely useless like most eyes on G-Shocks . The whole thing is built like a tank and very comfy. The functions are excellent too - time in every mode except tele-memo (which I never use anyway), 24hr timer but only 60min STW; 4 alarms plus snooze (really loud too) and dual-time feature. So for all the people with skinny wrists like mine and bad eyesight or just a fondness for cartoonish design and duplex LCDs - this is the watch for you . It also symbolizes in a perfect way almost everything that outsiders think about Gs - big, chunky and ugly - did I mention that I just love this model ?

    Greetings, Sedi

It is hideously wonderful!!!!! I've wanted one for a while now, but never gotten around to actually purchasing one. Those 3011 and 3010 models are definitely ugly, but boy do they have awesome modules. A great blend of basic features.

I know what you mean about the battery changes. I had to change the battery on my 3010 once. It was like breaking into Fort Knox.

Some of the most practical G-Shocks ever made. Nice and big. Strong steel buttons. Tons of armor plating. Amazingly functional modules. Huge digits. Very comfortable too.

    Just ugly.

    Sedi's 3011 is exceptionally ugly.

It's definitely a lot of screws . Right now I'm thinking about getting the version with the strap adapters too - like my G-3010. Legibility is just awesome with those huge digits - and I like the two-line layout with the seconds below hours and minutes - like on the G-8000 (one of my all-time favs). If you can't read the time on this watch you must be blind .
Btw: it was mainly you who influenced me in getting a G-3010 .

I like 'em too - the headline of the thread was just meant to get some attention . I even like the shiny bezel. Some said it does look like it's a fake because it looks so different from other Gs.
I like them so much in fact that I'm thinking about getting some more duplex LCD models - there's a German online store that has lots of those BNIB for very good prices.

    That's nice.

And we've all been there with the rubber protector that's meant to go inside, but invariably left out until all screws are replaced

:thanks. It's actually the second time I forgot the rubber protector - guess I'm a slow learner . I also forgot to put it back in when changing the battery on my GT-001 .
