    G-Shock Aviation GWA1000-1A & GWA1000D-1A New Arrival

Casio G-Shock is a brand with unbelievable following. The brand is known for making incredibly durable, multifunctional, and (in most cases) very fashionable watches. The watches in today’s review are no exception, with the durability, immense functionality, and cool looks that appeal to most G-Shockers… The G-Shock Aviation GWA1000-1A & GWA1000D-1A.

    G-Shock Aviation GWA1000-1A

The new arrival G’s feature the new “Smart Access” technology from Casio. This feature allows the user to adjust timezones simply by pulling out the electronic crown and rotating until the second hand points to the desired city. The crown also has a unique locking system, that allows for speedy adjustment. This is by far not the only function the watch has. You can switch through 5 different modes by pushing the lower left button and the current mode will be displayed at the 6′oclock sub dial. While in timekeeping mode, the sub dial will indicate the day of week. Another cool feature of that mode is you can also check temperature by pushing the top right button. In Fahrenheit (also reads Celsius), the hour hand indicates the hundreds, minute hand indicates the tens and the second hand indicates the single digit. After about 5 seconds, the watch will jump back to keeping time.

    G-Shock Aviation GWA1000D-1A

The G-Shock Aviation GWA1000-1A & GWA1000D-1A also have a world time mode, for another timezone which is also controlled by the crown. You can enter this mode by pushing the lower left button until the sub dial at 6 o’clock points to “WT” You can also adjust to UTC time with a push of the lower right button. Pushing the top right button, will bring you to your home time, which is the selected city in timekeeping mode.

    G-Shock Aviation GWA1000-1A

The watches also have a 1/20th of a second chronograph which is indicated by the 6 o’clock hand pointing to “ST”. The chronograph will measure the 1/20th of a second with the second hand, seconds with the minute hand, minutes with the hour hand, and hours with the sub dial at 12 o’clock. It is also capable of doing elapsed and flyback timing by pushing either the upper or lower right button while running.

    G-Shock Aviation GWA1000D-1A

These aviation pieces also have a count down timer mode indicated by the “TR” at the 6 o’clock sub dial. The count down timer can be set to a specific amount of time, within the range of 60 minutes. You would just pull the crown out and set the minute hand for the desired amount of time (example- 6 o’clock would be 30 min).

    G-Shock Aviation GWA1000-1A

The final mode is the alarm, indicated as “AL” a the 6 o’clock sub dial. This is even more simple to use than anything else. After switching to this mode, you can pull the crown out and set the desired time for the alarm. If you push the lower left button once, you can quickly adjust the hour hand independently, and if pushed again, the minute hand can be adjusted independently. Once the crown is pushed in, you can turn the alarm on or off by pushing the top right button.

    G-Shock Aviation GWA1000D-1A

On top of everything else, and most importantly, the watch is solar powered and radio controlled. The power level at a full charge will last up to 6 months in the dark. The watch also has a power save mode, which should near quadruple the power reserve. The radio control feature is indeed great to have. The watch will either automatically or manually attempt to receive signal and then calibrate itself to the atomic clock. These 2 features make for a worry free watch, but the real kicker is the new TRIPLE G RESIST which has new vibration resistance on top of the killer shock and centrifugal force resistance. G-Shocks in general can be beat with brute force and still perform without a glitch. The only thing that seems to destroy them is when the dog finds them as their new chew toy.

    G-Shock Aviation GWA1000D-1A

The design of this watch is what seems to have people drooling. They look awesome. Big, sharp, and unique. All fun attributes. The GWA1000′s are built to be aggressive, and certainly look that way. The lume is very strong and would make for an easy read in the cock-pit. Overall, I think this is one of Casio’s greatest releases. Priced out at $500 on the resin strap and $600 for the metal bracelet, it’s expensive compared to most G-Shocks, but worth every penny because of the functionality.

Does the seconds hand hit each of the second markers straight on?
