Re: G-Shock diehard review of the Ironman shock resist

Thanks very much for this highly informative review and the great pictures to go with it!
I've been intrigued with Timex's Ironman models for a while, and I think you've pushed me over to get one soon.
I'll be interesting to see how it'll stack up against my Casios.
    Best regards

Thanks for the review! I've always thought the newer Ironman Shock watches looked cool, but next to the G's they look a little small to me.. If they could make one about the size of a Mudman or Gulfman I'd be all in.
    Casio DW-9052
    Casio G-9000BP-1 "Purple Mudman"
    Casio G-7900 "Mulfman"
    Casio MDV-102 "Marlin"
    Casio GW-5600J-1
    Casio G-9100-1ER Gulfman
    Casio DW6900CS-1 "Zombie"
    Invicta 8926OB

I'm looking to replace my dad's old timex and think he would like a size close to a casio 5600 but he loves the size of timex's numerical display, the lap functions, and low profile. (He doesn't like a "heavy" watch like my Mudman, his words not mine)

Would appreciate the help and any comments you have on how the 5600 and timex wear and your sizing impressions between them.

Sure, I got my white one yesterday so I had planned to take some staged shots anyway. I'll throw in the DW-5600 for a size comparison.

    TK11. Been a great flashlight.

Once you get used to the huge numbers on the readout, it's hard to go back to wearing a Casio.

I have a TK10. Likewise, a very good light. Nice smooth beam.

I have tried a few Timex, but among other things I never got used to the shape of the digits. I was impressed by the many functions they have, but had problems with the module on one of mine crashing, and the bezel falling off my Expedition, and the plastic crystals getting scuffed very easily.

The few I've had are most probably not the best examples, and I have seen a few of the more pricey ones (in the Expedition range IIRC) I really like the look of, but I'm just more of a Casio style person I guess.

I've always said though, if I were into running I'd pick up an Ironman for that. However, running is my least favourite activity.

This may seem vaguely stalker-ish, but you don't happen to have HOV as your username at a popular Subaru website do you?

Sherpa - original post is updated with size comparo pics. I feel there's not a lot of difference in wearability between the 5600 and the Ironman Shock. They're both small enough to be out of the way but big enough to look masculine.

    I hate running too.

One thing I noticed when I got the white one: it has a different feel than the black. The side buttons are stiffer, the front button looser, and the band feels more sticky/rubbery. I would consider this a mark against the Timex; as manufacturing consistency is a cornerstone of quality.

On the plus side, Timex doesn't charge extra for different colors.

    HOV,

You're awesome! That was the ideal picture I was looking for to get a size reference to with the Casio 5600. Thanks for making the extra effort for us Timex-deficient watchaholics!

Superb review and watch. I'd buy this in a heartbeat over any Casio if it were only atomic!

That's a great review. I bought a T5K196 last week, and I like it better than any G-Shock that I have owned. Three complaints about it.

    1. The crystal is plastic.
    2. The display has a slight (and annoying) green tint. Why did they do that?
    3. This thing could have been solar-powered. The area that says "Ironman Triathalon" could have been used as a solar collector.

The crystal is plastic? That's surprising, it feels like a mineral crystal. How did you find that out?
